Jeez, lucky this game is being played on a quality NZ deck and not an Aussie average padding road.....;-)

If what Dean Brownlie did last season isn't enough, then nobody is... Brownlie, Smith, Raval, anyone - as several of us have said, Guptill is a beast against poor bowling on roads... this is a good track, the Lankans bowling was poor until the second new ball, he had a bit of luck too

Yeah agree. Pity Sri Lanka bowled two lengths, you could see late in the day if you bowled a good length that you had a really good chance on that wicket.

Brownlie deserves another chance for sure, but certainly wasn't setting the world on fire during his time. The others are *completely* unproven at this level.

Drop Guptill and try someone else? Maybe, but until proven otherwise Guptill is currently better than the rest.

He wont be dropped now - but again, look at that attack - aside from Herath it's people that average 48... exactly the sort of attack Guptill does well against - he's imo *almost completely* unproven at this level

Point is Brownlie was setting the world on fire last season opening in domestic cricket - Rurtherford was mediocre by comparison and went to the UK, Guptill did pretty much nothing in the World Cup until the Windies game, and on the strength of one ODI innings against a poor team on a flat deck becomes the test opener again L*

Sky TV have to fix up their review system technology. Same thing happened last year. That was probably clipping but worth a review on 47. Amateur hour from Sky.

In fairness, seam bowlers are at a major disadvantage in terms of good bowling averages in Sri Lankan conditions. Umesh Yadav and Verun Aaron of India for example have good bowling physiques and techniques but they bowl on batters or spinners wickets.

Have I missed something? Is Williamson off the field. Saw some superb fielding in the gully and assumed it was him, but it was Latham...

They've changed the fields. To begin with Guptil was in second slip (Craig's spot). Then Craig came on as a sub. Williamson has been fielding a lot at mid on and mid off and talking to the bowlers a lot (like a captain).

Williamson is the best gully in world cricket, another reason to not make him captain if he has to give up that fielding spot.

I love the current NZ teams fiedling. Boult and Southee are outstanding for fast bowlers. Guptill, Kane and Latham are brilliant. McCullum is excellent. And Craig is fantastic as a slip. He just impresses and impresses in the slip cordon. Leaves Taylor as a weak link and even he took a great catch in Australia.

Wagner reminding me why I don't rate him

Wagner's value is being a third seamer in a four prong attack because he can bowl so many overs. He removes the need for an allrounder like Anderson or Neesham. But when he is part of a five prong attack, of which are four are frontline seamers and the allrounder is a spinner, what is his role?

Some crazy asshole tried to tell me Wagner bowled a ball at 160kms...

Are they using the same shifty speed gun they used in Perth??

I seem to recall he was express on the U20s circuit when playing for South Africa before moving to NZ. Perhaps he changed his style to reflect the emphasis on swing in NZ?

Wagner has said that if people don't believe it, then Bill Lawry can face him in the nets.

He barely gets it over 135kms...

He would damn near end up in a wheelchair if he tried to up his speed by 25kms in one ball...

Bill lawry would hit him out the park m8

From the nets?

That is a quite some shot. 200 metres plus depending on the ground with the nets at point or square leg and then getting the required elevation to clear the stands. Not a bad hit for someone with only 15 sixes.
