The Windies must have collapsed badly after I went to bed they were going along pretty well when I was watching. Hazelwood was bowling superbly from what I saw.

Hope Voges and Smith can get a partnership going tonight.

We have an Ashes tour in a month, our batting is horrific aside from Smith/Warner both who have questions in English conditions. Voges has 1500 Shield runs and has a fantastic record in England!
Meh, he's average and has been for most of his career. One break out season at age 35 doesn't say to me he will do well at the highest level. Rogers churned out runs year after year for over a decade and was unlucky not to get his chance earlier. You could never say that about Voges.

I would rather him facing Anderson than Burns, etc at this stage. After the Ashes he will be discarded anyway.

PS: Who do you like in the Stradbroke Handicap at Doomden this week? Annoyed some plodders have accepted as Lumosity would have bolted!:x

Really?

09-10: 54.62
10-11: 38.29
11-12: 54.07
12-13: 25.86
13-14: 54.92
14-15: 104.46

Over the last 6 summers he has had 1 shocker (12-13), and one solid season (10-11), surrounded by 3 outstanding years and 1 superhuman year.

Put it all together, and he has got 4360 @ 53.83 over the last 6 shield seasons..... I fail to see how he hasn't been plugging away for a considerable amount of time??

Agree with Locky regarding the top order

I had no problem picking Voges over Burns

Burns will get plenty of chances

I still can't believe we won the World Cup with donkeys like Finch,Watto and Maxwell in our team and it would be even funnier if we won the Ashes with donkeys like Marsh,Voges and Watto in the Test team

Our team is crap but somehow we win games, makes no sense.

Didn't know his figures had been that good, still at 35 how much cricket is left in him??? If Burns is the future I'd rather them get as much test cricket in him. Is Darsh really the long term replacement for Rogers?? Christ he got out the same way he always does, fishing at a wide one with an angled bat.

Some players who debut at test cricket at ages like 35 still manage to have a successful career at international level. Colin Miller debuted at 34 and Mike Hussey at 30 and they had very successful international careers. Chris Rogers is the same although he played a test in 2008 but wasn't picked again until 2013.

really not sure why they dropped joe burns for voges...burns was pretty good in his debut games, and I know voges has had a pretty good shield season but what does debuting a 35 year old player say to the young guys who have been in good form for a few years??

Voges has never let us down when picked for the one day side

He wont let us down in the test arena

He will most likely get a ton tonight to silence the knockers

But Voges is going to be the backup batsman during the Ashes anyway. In which case, isn't Burns a better player to have in the squad to play in the FC tour matches and experience the tour of England?

When Rogers comes back the top 6 is Warner, Rogers, Darsh, Smith, Clarke, Watson.

Burns will go to England in the future with the test team, this would have been great for him as a player with a future. Voges, not so much.

If darsh bats at three over smith I'll flip out worse than Ricky Stuart at a press conference

Right now Voges is better than Burns. That should be all it comes down to. Burns will get his opportunity.

I like Voges, he's a very good player and I'd be stunned if he let us down.

I just think Burns is the future and as such should be there over a 34 year old, given the role is a back up anyway. To me it just seems a backward step

Top order is a shambles, if it were me Voges would be a lock until after the Ashes. wLook at our batting side...

Warner- poor last time, can he face a swinging ball?
Rogers- one last series...but is he in form?
Smith- can be nicky early and still new at number 3
Clarke- Class bat
S.Marsh- useless hack that comes off 1 in 5.
Twatson- he was good...5 years ago.

So look at that list...we have a Class bat in Clarke...Warner with questions, and Smith despite his form with questions in England.

That is the reason Voges is picked guys.
