Didn't know his figures had been that good, still at 35 how much cricket is left in him??? If Burns is the future I'd rather them get as much test cricket in him. Is Darsh really the long term replacement for Rogers?? Christ he got out the same way he always does, fishing at a wide one with an angled bat.

Agree re Burns and Smarsh (who is 32). No idea what the fsacination is with Smarsh? A hopeless batsman over a long period of time. They should have just opened with Watto and kept Burns.

I would have put Voges in 2 years ago, so no issue with him playing now, but he may only have a couple of seasons in him....

Well Darsh should be the one to make way for Rogers no question, and Watson is still picked because he can shuffle in and bowl a few overs of military medium paced dobblers. Even in the field yesterday everyone looked sharp and on the ball yet he just slothed around at first slip and looked half asleep.

Haze has a test average.

Good knock by him to stay with Voges. I doubt we will bat again they look a beaten side.

There's not a lot of romance in sport anymore - the whole win at all costs sort of thing that we've seen with Essendon and their drugs saga - but seeing a 35 year old Adam Voges make his debut, score 130* and at day's end, be grinning from ear to ear like a kid in the lolly shop, it doesn't get any better.

Whether or not Voges should have played test cricket earlier - he never really let us down in ODIs - is a moot point. That he has a baggy green, a test ton and quite possibly saved the Test for Australia speaks volumes for me. I hope he carries this form in to the Ashes. Hard work, persistence, patience...that's how you do it boys and girls. Not juicing up and then trying to dog it.

We need to reverse our batting order or let Haze open, what a cricketer this man is.

Great stuff from Voges, used all his experience last night and I'd still take MMarsh over Watson.

And Locky asking if Warner can play the swinging ball ? lols . I take it you never watch the IPL.

And for those questioning Starc's red ball ability need to stop judging him on his form from 2013 and pay attention to what he is doing now. Everyone saying Harris is a lock for the ashes need to remember he hasn't bowled a ball in anger for over 4 moths, he's not a lock for mine.

Voges was magnificent. Picking for the future I find is overrated. If the young guys need to wait another season or two so be it. I'd rather the message that you need to be the best to be selected rather than be young. Especially in a team that isn't solid with its batting.

don't you just love seeing that, noone expected him to get us out of that hole

years of toiling away in first class cricket is the reason he was able to do that, gee we've gotten some value out of these older players as of late in Rogers and Voges

Again - nobody was questioning Voges ability.

It was about what had Burns done wrong to go from incumbent to not even being a backup?

Burns is a very average player of spin, it has been his one knock against him. Probably why Voges is there and to a degree Shaun Marsh. Both play spin well.

Very pleased for Voges.

I'm also a big fan of Joe Burns, but I guess with him unlikely to play in England as it is the fact that he'll be playing regular cricket is a good thing (with the A tour).

Going into this series I wanted
Rogers
Warner
Smith
Clarke
Voges
Watson/M Marsh (Neither really deserve it at present)

As top six, and hopefully that's what they go with rather than Smarsh.

Plus Voges has a very good record in England also.

Burns will get opportunities if he continues to play well at shield level/A tour. He's probably got himself to next inline after the current squad. Voges at present is better though.

Good lineup RedBear. Still would prefer to have Smith at 4, Voges at 3 though, seems absolutely stupid to move a middle order gun bat in Smith.

Perfect that Bad Hands is the one to get out to that Bishoo ball. Gives the perfect reasoning for media pals that "It was unplayable," another free pass for a guy averaging 15 in his last 10 tests

He was swinging like a drunk before that! What is wrong with our batsmen...Voges showed how you bat on that pitch!
