Damn we're good.

Awesome batting line-up. Quality keeper/batsman. World's best spinner. And BY FAR the worlds best pace battery - Anderson and Tremlett would make a World XI along with Steyn atm. And then there's Broad and even Tremlett and Finn who can't get a game.

Oh how things have changed in the space of a decade.

still not quite there yet...

I was thinking about England's batting last night. They don't have the best batsmen in the world, not by a long shot, but they have quality well down the order. It makes it difficult for opposition bowling attacks to see the possibility of taking 20 English wickets in a match and that has to be a strong edge. Certainly helped in the Ashes.

Disagree about the bowling though, there is definite value in the English seamers, but Steyn + Morkel are easily the best new ball attack in the world, would have to be the first 2 seamers chosen in any world XI. Swann is currently the best spinner in the world, but he has to be one of the least impressive best spinners in the world ever.

Swan couldn't buy a wicket in Australia
didn't need too, Anderson was getting enough for the both of them for free. I thought Swann was superb in Sydney, he may not have taken many wickets but he terrorised the left handers.

Swann has so much quality, he gets prodigious drift and turn which is such a rarity from a finger spinner.

India will struggle without Zaheer - especially if the replacement is Sreesanth, who is more likely to chuck a tanty than take a 5 for.

Englands certainly the best balanced side in the world, batting doesnt quite match India at their best, or the Saffers, but bowling shits on Indias and is far better balanced that Saffers who, beyond Steyn and Morkel, arent much chop (although Tahir could change that)

Mate we got spanked by a innings defeat in 3 out of the 5 tests, How much more of a massacre would it have been if Swann took a few more wickets?

LOL @ Twizzle. I see you Aussies still see yourself as the measuring stick in world cricket. "Swann did nothing against us so he MUST be crap!".

He sliced and diced you during the 2009 Ashes and played a key role in the Adelaide and Sydney tests. Perth isnt good for any spinner. Brisbane was a disgraceful road (still didnt start the tour well) and he wasnt needed in Melbourne because we raped you in a day.

His career record speaks for itself.

And we'll have to disagree on the fast bowling Hallatia. Beyond Steyn RSA arent much chop. I think youre highly overrating Morkel who is a talent but still has much to prove. Basically if Steyn gets injured then RSA cant win a test match against a quality side. If England lose Anderson or Tremlett then we have Bresnan and Finn to come in who have proven in their short careers that they can take wickets.

Is sliced and diced a technical term Tommy ?

I looked it up in the cricketers almanac and it wasn't in there, maybe that page was missing.

I thought a bowlers job was to take wickets instead of appearing on Masterchef.

You're right, it is!

Does 142 test wickets in 33 Tests @ 28.13 and a S/R of 58 qualify as good enough for you?

As for sliced and diced...doesn't appear in any cricketing almanac i know of but it is decidedly mocking and humiliating in nature :D

And im saying, who cares?! Australia are what, the 5th ranked Test nation in the world? So what if he didn't take a tonne of wickets down under. I mean he hardly got a chance in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney because the seamers ripped your top order out before tea.

He was only required to win us a test in Adelaide, which he did superbly.

He took 21 wickets and was MotS in RSA. That to me is a far greater achievement against a much better test side.

Australia are no longer the measuring stick, Twizzle. Im not going to judge Swann on a tour where we won 3 out of 5 tests by an innings. That's a cricket raping...it's much fairer to judge him over a long period of time and against the worlds best teams.

Well you seem to care alot for some one who is pretending not to care Tommy.

I said he was crap in Australia and yet now you want to give me his stats from South African tour.

Still deflecting I see.

Nothing changes the fact that he was crap in Australia which is what my original statement was all about.
