We're going well, but I expect we may struggle to beat last years overall average. We had great weather last season, and isn't La nina meant to be on the way? That means lots of rain, and RL fans don't show up when it rains.

Consolidation imo is the key this year. Stay above 16k. Real expansion should be aimed at the 100th season (2007) and Australian RL's Centenary season. By 2010, it'd be great to see 20k given a real shake and all the Sydney clubs having to seriously consider moving some or all of thier games to big stadia.

I think the NRL average will stay above 16k. There's a few stadiums being redeveloped which will allow bigger crowds, and games like Anzac Day, and clashes between the heavyweights are growing in stature.

It would be nice to see some of the teams who draw poorly start to make more of a contribution though. Souths, Melbourne etc.

I'm not sure this argument is exactly hitting the nail on the head dodge.

Because that kind of logic applies to all Sydney teams, including Canterbury whose crowds in Sydeny against the Storm haven't exactly been stellar (below this particular Easts crowd for the last three years - 2003: 9819, 2004:7252, 2005: 7414).

2008 is the big year.

Melbourne and the Titans will be playing out of brand new rectangular stadiums that will be perfect for Rugby League.

On top of this you have all the centenury or rugby league celebrations and a world cup at the end of the season.

They really seem to pack them in at Newcastle. What's the capacity up there?
You'd think there money woes are over if they keep getting crowds like they had last night.

Capacity is 26,500.

Crowd was 25,504 i think. Money woes are over, but thanks to sponsorship not crowds - we've always had the crowds.

Horribly supported team?

Why in a city of 3 million should the Roosters have to rely on Melbourne supporters?

This same 'horribly supported team' wil play in front of 20,000+ in Townsville Sat night.

The Roosters have been in Sydney for 99 years and can still only pull 10,000 to a game.

That is absolutley inexcusable.

That's because thicko in this city there is more than one team to support.

In any case as anyone who has been to the SFS knows more people sit on the western side due to the sun and trust memberships so what ever you see on Fox aint a good indication

Playing a horribly supported team from Victoria

What does that have to do with anything? If we get 10,000 to a home game (say against Cronulla, who never bring any fans down) people want us out of the league. (Even though if we get 12,000-14,000 those couple of thousand different make all the difference of whether or not we should be in the league.

However, 10,000 in rugby league heartland is absolutely acceptable?

Melbourne have never have - any never will - the chance to have a derby against anyone. Sydney clubs get this almost every weekend. Besides a couple of teams (St.George-Illawarra, Souths, Bulldogs, Wests brought a lot down last year) there is hardly any away support. At most there is 1000 away supporters. Ever. So that's on average around 9000 Melbourne supporters that attend, and a tiny package of away supporters.

Yet if Parramatta vs Sydney Roosters get a crowd of 15,000 in "rugby league heartland", then that is a perfect Sunday afternoon. Despite there probably being a 50/50 split, and if that is the case, less than the amount of Melbourne supporters going to a game.

We never have the luxury of away supporters pushing up the numbers, it would be very interesting if there would be a way of counting the amount of members of each club that attend each game. I'm sure our quota would be up there.

Ridiculous concept.

The crowd was a joke - fact.
