Hunt relishes halfback job for Broncos

Saturday, February 11, 2006 - 11:13 PM

Brisbane NRL halfback Karmichael Hunt orchestrated a classy trial win for his team in Rockhampton as the Broncos romped home 36-4 over North Queensland.

Usually the Broncos' fullback, Hunt eased into his new role and could join Darren Lockyer in a deadly halves combination for the Broncos this season.

Hunt crossed for two tries in the game scoring his first in the 12th minute and his second early in the second half with a solo kick and chase effort.

"It was a bit more tackling than at fullback but I had fun," Hunt said.

"The main thing for me tonight was to keep it simple."

Hunt said if the opportunity arose to play halfback again during the season he'd love the chance.

The Cowboys were plagued by handling errors and struggled with cohesion in attack throughout the game.

Well, in the same day we get a new major sponsor AND we beat the Parrascum....no complaints so far!

The "Broncos" side that played Wynnum was pretty woeful tonight. BUT, on the positive side that wasn't even our full strength Clydesdales (reserve grade) team. Most of those guys will not make it past the Queensland A-Grade comp this year imo.

Disappointed after seeing the much-hyped Fraser Anderson for the first time. The guy is quick and big, and VERY exciting with ball in hand, but got caught out in defence at least 4 or 5 times throughout the match.

Still, a season or so in the Queensland Cup and anything is possible. IMO Denan Kemp and Steve Michaels are still well and truly in front of Anderson on the pecking order atm.

It was a pretty weak Cowboys side too - Jensen and Firman were the only players from the Grand Final side to play. Carl Webb also played. Virtually our Young Guns side.

Hardly new. They've been with the storm for two seasons already.

True, but now they are our major sponsor and feature on the front of our jersey instead of the sleeve.

4 weeks til first Storm game that matters for 2006. I can't wait and damn well hope I get to see Cronk in the number 7 jersey.

Wasn't really expecting to win considering the Eels were missing Tahu, Grothe, Morris, Marsh, Cayless, Riddell, Morrison, Hindmarsh, Moimoi, Stringer from the top side
Odd. The media report I read said both sides were close to full strength.

That's the understrength Raiders side, we're still missing J. Smith, Croker, Mogg, Frawley, Thompson, Weyman, Miller, Hodgson, Lomu, Carney, Tilse and a few others.

Raiders are reportedly smashing the Warriors out of the contest on defence.

Raiders halves being reported as playing very slick, good news for Zillman marks :D
from the reports it looks like canberra are FINALLY playing an expansive style, playing very aggressively in attack
