The South Sydney Rabbitohs have announced the signing of exciting young halfback Luke Capewell to a two-year deal today, further bolstering the ranks for the Club leading into the 2007 season.
Capewell represented the Queensland under 17s and Queensland Schoolboys in 2006, and has been selected to play for the Australian Schoolboys on their tour of Europe later this year. Luke is also a scholarship holder with the Australian Institute of Sport.
Capewell will be dual registered with both the NSWRL and QRL, and he will play with the Brisbane Easts Tigers in the Queensland Cup competition for the first year of his contract. Capewell will be on stand-by to move into the Rabbitohs’ ranks if required.
Rabbitohs CEO Shane Richardson says the signing of Capewell is an important one for the Club.
“It has been a long time since this Club has secured the services of an up-and-coming player, external to our own juniors, with the ability of Luke Capewell and we’re pleased to announce that he will be with us for at least the next two seasons,” Mr Richardson said.
“He is the outstanding player from his age group, with all of the skills, and with more time to develop his game and to work with the team we have here, we’re sure he can become a top-level player in the NRL.
“A lot of hard work has gone into bringing Luke to our Club and I congratulate our recruitment team on the job they have done.
“We’re very excited about next season and we look forward to seeing all of our new recruits in action in the new year.”
