Its a public holiday ... the weather is clearing up in Southern Sydney ... I think we can get 15/16000

Remember we played the Sharks in Monday night footy on a public holiday and it sold out at Cronulla.

That's right but our home crowds have been poor and this crazy weather will surely have some effect even though it'll be over by tomorrow.

Still, I hope to be pleasantly surprised.

When was the last time that a 13,000 crowd looked like being the crowd of the round?

Whenever it was it was almost certainly in a pre SOO round because those bloody exhibitions go some way to ripping the guts out of several rounds per year

they also finance the game majorly.

200 000 tickets @ $60 = 12,000,000

not to mention TV ratings, merchandise and brand exposure that Origin provides.

Exhibit your foot out of your mouth mate.

It does cheapen the club competition something severe though. Surely there is a way SoO can be run without cannibalising the club competition.

the nrl cheapens the club competition by not advertising it or promoting it properlly.

Do you think if AFL had the ability to stage a proper SoO that their crowds would fall off so horribly?

I dont

I also know they would market the f**k out of it.

Valid points, but not what I'm arguing about.

Playing it mid week and taking players away from club fixtures is something the AFL wouldn't do either...They know that the club competition butters their bread and Rugby League would be advised to do the same. As spectacular as the revenues are from SoO, it doesn't hold a candle to what the club competition produces over half a year of competition.

Play it on a Sunday or a Saturday night. Play a City (Auckland) v Country (South of the Bombays) on the weekend too. Convince the poms to play a test series against the French on the same weekend. Give some air around the fixtures so their can be an intense focus on the SoO for an entire week without cheapening the club competition.

The marketing's a f**king let down there's no denying that.

I'll head out to Kogarah this evening but I'm not holding out hope for a big crowd. 11k tops.

AFL market the Farq outta ever thing they do.

It's why it appears to be the national game supported by the majority when, in fact, it is the majority of their supporters that are on the National list of morons.

That was a bad round. Lets hope we don't get too many more rounds with Sydney clubs at home in the rain.
