You would think some people may have learnt after picking the raiders for the spoon for the last 3 season in a row.

I think it very hard to say who will get the wooden spoon for next year. I think it might be Cronulla, but then again with a new coach anything is possible. I think the Titans will really struggle towards the end of the year when their depth is tested. The other team I think might struggle is the Raiders. They have a really good young side, but very inexperienced.

I picked Canberra last year, and I've vowed not to underestimate them again. Wouldn't surprise if they got into the 8 again IMO.

Forced to choose I'd say the Sharks (Ricky Stuart will be a great asset, but their cattle & attitude are a concern), Titans (great squad it fit, but depth is a real test) and Rabbits (I hope to hell they improve, and am sure they will, but thats what I thought last year too) will be occupying the cellar.

I considered the Roosters too, but they still have a pretty damn good roster and Chris Anderson aint no mug despite what some may think.

In no order, Sharks, Souths, Canberra.

Many have said Penrith, but Matt Elliot was successful in coaching a virtual 'no-name' Canberra side into the top 8.

With the players Elliot has at his disposal at Penrith, they may go even higher.

The reason the Raiders did so well this year relative to what most people expected was that our roster was under-estimated, not that Elliott is some coaching genius. He is a good coach but I think he will do no better than John Lang at Penrith... if the Raiders had ended up with Lang I would have been very happy as I have always rated him very highly.

I think the competition is way too even next year.

The team that comes last will have the worst luck with injuries...rather than not having the quality.

A bit early to make that call, but there are the usual suspects:

South Sydney Rabbitohs: Perennial under-achievers, but definitely on the make. They could get themselves sorted out next year, though.

Cronulla Sharks: Ricky Stuart. Enough said.

Newcastle Knights: Andrew Johns vs the self-appointed BEST COACH EVAR. He stifled the Eels and could well cripple the Knights; if he and Andrew Johns have a few too many disagreements, that will be reflected as well. And, of course, if Johns suffers an injury, it'l be an uphill season.

The Cowboys were also riven by strife at year's end. The off-seasons should let them get back on track, but they have a lot of new ancillary staff coming on board, too. But I think the above three are more likely to "win" the Spoon.

At the end of the year, yes, but a lot of players made a name for themselves that year and were relative unknowns at the start (Rooney, Lewis, Whatuira, Clinton, Waterhouse, Galuvao, Rodney...)

I think if Penrith kept Lang, the bottom 3 would be a distinct possibility. But with Elliott, I'm feeling optimisitic. Not necessarily top 8 optimistic, but "building for a great 2008" optimistic. Elliott has already said that he will promote youth next year, something that JL only really used out of necessity over the last couple of years.

For the record, Raiders, Sharks, and... ummm... don't know.

These will be the teams battling it out for the spoon and why -

Canberra ( I rate Elliott as a Coach. If they do perform next year I will be proven wrong. Also, yes - they have a very promising young side, but teams also need experience and that's something Canberra has lost in bucket loads)

Tigers ( No Prince or Skandalis.. If they lose Marshall for a lengthy period and Morris doesn't perform they will start to struggle)

Penrith (Purely based on if I'm proven wrong on the Elliott factor. If he is as good as I think he is - they'll be safe)

Souths ( All it takes is 2 or 3 injuries and we're rooted for depth. We also have no backline. I believe if we keep fit and JT gets the best out of the players, then we can finish as high as 10th realistically. But if things don't swing our way - ouch)

Sharks, Souths and Raiders bottom 3. Not sure who'll get the spoon. Roosters will do better next year with Myles and Anasta not in 5/8, maybe not the 8 though.

Panthers to maybe learn to win a few of the games they've lost next year (e.g. the losses to Souths and Roosters) and be a bit like Canberra last year, getting into the 8 ahead of more fancied teams.

I'm not confident of your chances but i do concede that if there's a team out there likely to come from no where to make a big impression, it's definitely you guys.

especially with the sort of talent coming through at your club.

Iam amazed at evrybody thinking the tigers will be cellar dewlers in 2007. 2006 was a year when injuries hit them hard and to key players,it also was the year they couldnt get a call go their way in the tight games.In saying this they missed the play offs by one win and beat both brisbane and melbourne pretty well.
The question mark will be the front row,but i see them top eight and maybe top four
