I've always been surprised that the Tigers are so poorly supported in QLD given that our home crowd averages are generally the highest in Sydney (4 of the last 5 years).

Yeah, i think its probably the merger thing. There wouldnt be ANY wests supporters, but there would have been more than a few Balmain fans. I was one before the Broncs came in. Not anymore. The merger f**ked em over.

I terms of NSW teams popularity in QLD i reckon it goes a little like this.

Dragons
Dogs

(big empty space)

Eels
Raiders
Manly
Panthers
Bunnies
Tigers
Roosters
Knights
Sharks

But thats only going from people i know, and the number of away fans at Suncorp.

Seriously i reckon only half of Brisbaneites go for the Broncs. Of my mates in my age group (early 30's) there are only 2-3 Broncs fans and 6-7 fans of other teams. Look at all the people on this forum who's location is Brisbane but they go for other teams.

Great argument for a second Brisbane team.

DETROIT, a city of 4.2 million = 76% OF 80,000 = 60,800. Not a bad average considering the snow and ice that city gets in winter. Compare that to the 15,000- crowds in Sydney, population 4.5 million.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Detroit only has one team? So therefore Sydney's league average should but the sum of all Sydney teams, which would be 9 x ~15,000 which is 135,000 per fortnight, compared to their 61,000?

I reckon a significant percentage of those (I'm one of them) would have moved north of the border in the last 10 years or so. But yes, definitely a good case for a 2nd Brisbane team.

Same story in canberra, without the added bonus of having a winning culture.

I think deep down the majority of canberrans who arent rusted on supporters of old sydney clubs like dragons and wests are just bandwagoners. They will proudly support the raiders once they start winning again. Until then they support teams like the titans and storm or eels.

screaming, absolutely screaming for a team

i realise housing the sharkies doesn't help, but that once again, will do their bid no favours

Well done Sharks for taking your home game to Gosford.

Probably killed about 3-4k off what they would have got at Shark Park.

For an area that is supposedly screaming out for an NRL team to play out of Gosford that was a poor crowd there tonight.

While I know there is probably no local support for either the Bulldogs or the Sharks, I thought the locals would have shown up for the game. Just to show the NRL they really want a team playing out of there.

I am beginning to wonder if its a myth that the local area wants an NRL team.

Well if they really want a local NRL team, one to call their own to play out of Gosford, then they have to show they want it. That could mean they will have to put up with the odd crappy game.

When TV viewers see images of a near empty stadium in Sydney they don't multiply that x 9.
