2010 Dally M Awards thread

Let's face it, the Dally M player of the year award is flawed from the start. The points system is totally ridiculous.

You could have the perfect game of football, where everyone has a blinder. The media give their 3-2-1 decision at the end and 31 players get nothing.

Then you could have those games that are woeful, park footy stuff. Still, the media give their 3-2-1 decision when nobody really deserves anything.

The simple solution is to give every player in every game a score, let's say out of 10. If everyone deserves 10, give it to them. If everyone deserves 0, so be it. At the end of the year, just add up the scores. Highest score wins. Simple!

Yeah, pretty much this.

Too much work for the boofheads though to pay so much attention each game.

Man, I really feel for the Raider's fans. Imagine if they could have kept Carney? Would have been a huge premiership threat.

You kinda do, but at the same time the club had no choice.

I get a bit annoyed when I hear things like "Canberra discard" or "Sacked Raiders player" "Unwanted at the Raiders". I mean Todd Carney had so many off field incidents the club did the right thing and punted the bloke.

Had he stayed he wouldnt have won the Dally M.

Him getting the sack has changed him a bit, and he's always been a talented player, just needed to fix up his attitude.

And its worked well, Dally M player of the year and possibly a State of Origin cap next season.

Well done to him.

cry me a river. they don't know how to handle troubled players. was sacking Irwin when Carney was at fault the right move?

rather than punting Carney to Atherton they could have looked after him better. Like we did with Jake Friend. Yes we sacked him, but we kept tabs on him and he got work with a Roosters fan/sponsor. When Easts were satisfied that he had turned his life around, he got re-signed.

You do realise that Carney got punted because he didn't accept the proposed alcohol ban that the Raiders were going to enforce. He didn't accept responsibility, got sacked and only then did he realise he could possibly lose his career. That was the turning point not the Roosters .

A big congratulations to Todd Carney for winning the Dally M medal, thoroughly deserved.

To those whinging about some of the points he posted, get over it, as has been pointed out numerous times he was actually ripped off some points against Parramatta and Manly.

The real joke of the night was how Jamie Soward even got nominated as 5/8th of the year; he is about the 15th best 5/8th in the comp!

well done to Carney but Boyd was more deserving to win the Dally M. If Boyd never snubbed the media that time he may have been more favoured and got over the line.

I know right, I don't believe Dragons players didn't get every award! I have loads of friends who think they shuold have

After the farce last year, last nights were much better but there were still some questionable winners.

Regardless, who cares really?

yep, awards ( that are judged ) are like rep teams - you'll never have everyone agreeing with every selection

Carney and Farah. The to best in the NRL apparently, but not good enough for Origin. Let's go with Barrett and Ennis instead (neither of whom got a mention and whose teams they carry fell miles outside the eight). Good work Blues selectors.

Well they did play an extra 3 club games to all the Origin players....

Why don't they have 'try of the year' as well as or instead of headline moment??

If it weren't for the tries, Parra would have won it anyway considering all year the telegraph have smeared our club when we're down and been all over us when we're won.
