He's not siding with anyone, he's just pointing out what we're saying. Which is Star City are idiots for not at least including the words "Star City" in their sponsorship deal. Good on Souths indeed, we can all agree there.

In terms of Star City, remember that they are undergoing a $760m refurbishment, so they will more than likely have a huge advertising push when it is completed.

After the casino renovations are completed, there are rumors the name will be changed to just 'The Star'. This could be one reason they only included the 'star' image on the sponsorship.

It could also relate to the government legislation that prevents gambling and alcohol sponsorship appearing on youth apparel... maybe by removing the name of the casino from the jersey, it will mean that the star at least can appear on all fan merchandise...

All in all, I think it looks great, good work by Souths.

I'm a uni student, I can't afford to buy a jersey every year at the prices they are at. I support my club via my ticketed membership and buying a jersey in 2010, i think that's more than most.

What Timmah and gronkathon said... Maybe Russell should stop trying to flog a dead horse, actually watch his side make the finals and do semi-decent and even perhaps win a finals match before going off and slapping merchandise on the backs of over season celebrities.

I think its great marketing. Russell is using his star power to get famous people to wear his teams colours. Any publicity is good, especially this type.

Russell hires coaches, trainers and other support staff to motivate and guide the team on the field. He is playing to his strengths which are his connections and high profile.

I think that decision was to appease the inner city yuppie types, as was getting rid of the cheerleaders (a rugby league tradition for 50 years).
