Interesting to see the media ignore the fact given their whinging about sponsorship by gambling organisations. Good to see a gambling organisation step back when so many are gettting on board IMO

I heard a rumour a while back that the dragons 2011 charity sheiks jersey will the the exact opposite of the red V. So a white V with red everywhere else, anybody else heard of this or can confirm this?

I don't know but that would be nice for Steelers fans.

I've also heard this will be the case.

What will keep Steelers fans even more happy is the fact we are using the Illawarra jersey as our alternate this year.

If it is true, will be interesting to see if it is an inverse of the home jersey, or the same design/Vee as last year's charcoal charity shield strip (the Melbourne victory vee)?

I've always thought if we do red with a white vee, it should be a double vee like the kangaroos jersey

I'm not sure why a mostly red jersey with a white V would make steelers fan happy. remembering that the Dragons red V and the Steelers red are two different shades of red.

Old Steeler fans (who are now dragons fans) will be happy that the Dragons away/alternate jersey from 2011 onwards is the old Steelers jersey ... finally.

I've also heard this will be the case.

What will keep Steelers fans even more happy is the fact we are using the Illawarra jersey as our alternate this year.

Thanks for the confirmation.

CROWN CASINO will be unveiled as the new naming rights sponsor of the Melbourne Storm today.

As revealed in the Herald in May last year, Melbourne Storm opened negotiations with James Packer's casino after major sponsors abandoned the club for systemic salary cap rorting.

Joint major sponsors ME Bank and superannuation fund HostPlus cancelled deals worth an estimated $900,000 a season.

A third sponsor, sportswear company Skins, also walked out on the club in April last year after the NRL stripped the Storm of two premierships and three minor premierships for salary cap breaches.

After almost nine months of discussions with Crown, the club is expected to call a press conference this morning to announce the new major sponsorship deal.

The deal is expected to run until the 2013 season.

ME Bank had the rights to the front of the Storm's jersey until the end of this season, while HostPlus had the rights to the back of the jersey until November next year. ME Bank has since become a major sponsor of AFL club Richmond.

Just six weeks out from the NRL season, the only major partner of the embattled Storm is Jayco Caravans, the company of sacked club director Gerry Ryan. The relationship between Jayco and Storm has lasted 12 years, but there is no guarantee the company will continue to financially support the club.

Crown has had ties with the Storm for several years. The club has held numerous fund-raising events at the casino, including mid-season and end-of-year balls.

Last April, a Storm spokesman confirmed that ''more general sponsorship discussions'' had taken place with Crown.

The deal could not come at a better time for the embattled management of Storm, still picking up the pieces of Brian Waldron's reign as chief executive.

Asked if Crown was the club's new major sponsorship partner, Melbourne boss Ron Gauci refused to comment.

Please, why is everyone hating on gambling revenue lately whilst there is still an abundance of alcohol sponsorship in the game?

Storm announce major sponsorship with Crown

4/02/2011 11:45:00 AM

Melbourne Storm and Crown Melbourne have today announced a new major sponsorship agreement. The announcement sees two of Melbourne’s icons forge a partnership that once again underlines the city’s status as Australia’s sports and entertainment capital. The partnership will see the famous Crown logo displayed on the much coveted front of jersey position on all Melbourne Storm’s playing apparel. Importantly, the agreement will provide Melbourne’s only NRL club with a superior off field home for its extensive national fan and membership base.

When combined with the magnificent benefits which accompanied Melbourne Storm’s move to AAMI Park in 2010, the club will now be able to offer some of the world’s best facilities, both on and off the field. Crown’s Chief Executive Officer, Rowen Craigie, said: “Supporting the Melbourne Storm through this innovative sponsorship will help deliver our strategy of attracting more interstate visitors to Crown in Melbourne. This new partnership will provide Crown with increased exposure in the significant New South Wales and Queensland markets.”

Commenting on the partnership, Melbourne Storm Chief Executive Officer, Ron Gauci, said: “Melbourne Storm was very clear that we wanted more than just a major sponsorship. We wanted a relationship with an organisation that could provide a home for our supporters and a proposition that would deliver world class entertainment experiences at one location. It is a huge bonus that Crown is a major national tourist destination.” “Further, the club was seeking a major sponsor that epitomises the spirit and vibrancy that Melbourne the city and Melbourne Storm the club both offer.

There is no better embodiment of that spirit than Crown.”As Australia’s leading premium integrated resort, Crown Melbourne attracts over 17 million local, interstate and international visitors each year. Crown is a major tourist destination in Melbourne and is a strong supporter of Victoria’s Major Events program. To launch the partnership, Crown’s logo will be recognised in Melbourne Storm’s new advertising campaign, set to launch this Sunday 6 February 2011.

Yes they do but have never commited to any individual AFL club. Crown logo should look good on the jersey if they keep it gold... Or is it white. And all this bitching about gaming revenue needs to stop. People make their own choices with gambling!
