At this rate the Knights will get 20k by the time the Easter bunny rolls around. 1110 memberships (ticketed) sold in 6 hours.

As little as $2.83 per person/game, and up to $8.50 for an adult/game.

Great initiative by Tinkler. Obviously helps not having to rely on gate receipts to keep the club alive. But we have the seats to accomadate it, so why not?

Will the Knights do that every year? It hardly sets the foundation for long term stability.

Financial stability? the guy owning us is worth $1b. He is a smart man, I think he sees this as, the higher the crowd numbers, the more money people will want to sponsor the knights and get signage around the ground. Remember he does have to cover the $10m/year sponsorship unless he wants to pay the difference.

Its mainly aimed at getting a whole new generation of kids to the games.

Ive been to Hawks (NBL) games, and there are kids everywhere, and I dont think its due to the standard of basketball. If the NBL can do it, why cant the NRL?

Do dogs sell seasons tickets for around $100 bucks or something? so the Knights really isnt that much cheaper in terms of buying adult tickets. We've got a 30,000 seat stadium, might as well try and fill it.

Just to add to what you're saying, it's also a great way of creating a membership culture as for the first time people who may have never considered buying memberships before, will take one up.

This will lead to larger crowds, which creates a better atmosphere, which will bring people back, which will also help convert more people to becoming members, as they won't want to miss out on some of the better seats or even at all.

Eventually, I'm sure Tinkler's plan is to turn the Knights into something like Green Bay or the West Coast Eagles, where the only way to go to a game is to be a member, and if you're not a member, you're on a waiting list.

It not only turns the ground into an intimating arena, but it also means that over time, membership prices can then be raised, turning it into the core revenue source of the club and securing the Knights future regardless of Tinkler or not.

The last few years 10% of Bulldogs members have been from South-East QLD. That's why the Dogs have moved a home game to Suncorp each year.

STRENGTH IN NUMBERS AS KNIGHTS TARGET10,000 MEMBERS

The Coal & Allied Newcastle Knights have today announced an ambitious new Membership initiative aimed at gaining 10,000 new Members.

The “Strength in Numbers Membership Campaign” will launch on television tonight, and in radio and press tomorrow, featuring Knights Captain Kurt Gidley, along with Knights Legends Steve Crowe, Robbie O’Davis, Marc Glanville and Leigh Maughan.

“Membership is the best way to support the Newcastle Knights. It’s a measure of a Club’s strength and stability off the field,” said Troy Palmer, Acting CEO of the Newcastle Knights.

“The Knights’ current Membership represents only 0.74% of the population of the Hunter; that’s not a significant number for a rugby league stronghold. We have removed the price barrier and are making it far more affordable for our community to make the Membership commitment,” said Mr Palmer.

“For a family of two adults and two children to sit in a reserved seat for the remainder of the season for as little as $5.00 per person per home game represents amazing value.”

“Our aim is to have 10,000 new Community Members by the New Zealand Warriors game on Sunday May 15,” he said.

The new 10 game Memberships are flexible; from singles, to concessions, and flexible family packages with up to four children.

“Membership is the best way for fans to support us. Hunter rugby league fans now have the opportunity to help us play in front of a capacity Ausgrid Stadium at all of our home games. The team is excited about this initiative and hope as many people as possible become Knights Members,” said Jarrod Mullen at today’s launch.

Good on the knights for being proactive about membership!

The more NRL club members the better it is for our game. As mentioned before by yakstorm, its a great way to get people into the midset of being a member of something.

Saints... 19,892. These last few hundred seem to be painfully slow.

I'm disappointed, I thought there would have been a huge push prior to the first game at Kogarah next week, but nothing yet. They seem more concerned with facebook judging by their facebook update this morning....saints are 7th in facebook likes with 40,000. Behind broncos, storms, titans, dogs, tigers and LOL@50uff$. They want to know what people want from facebook to make them click like...here's an idea...advertise it!!
