2012 Bundy Cup

If today is any indication, pushing Mounties last week might be the highpoint for Burwood. Their defence today was woeful. Wenty won 68-10.

Wenty had a pretty useful pack of forwards:

Nathan Armit
Troy O'Sullivan
Dean Rysko
Valu Nasio
Danny Howard
Peter Prime

with Walter Vaueu and Matt Hunt on the bench.

Got pumped by a NSW cup injected squad. Hardly a fair summary. Defence was pretty poor, though. But what killed them most was the amount of ball they turned over either when in good field position in attack or giving it back in their own 20-30. They were quite competitive the first 30mins at only 8-6. Young, inexperienced side. Learning season for a lot of them. They also had 2 injuries in 1st half so were down to 15 men for a good 65mins.

Yes the 8 players I mentioned have played plenty of State Cup but only Armit and Howard have not been in the Bundy side for the first 4 rounds. Either these guys played 2 games on the weekend or they were dropped.

Yes Burwood had a couple of injuries and as you say Wenty ran up 60 points in only 50 minutes.

This Wenty team is a similar standard to what this club has put on the park in this grade for most of the last 10 years and before that they were even stronger as there were no restrictions on players before 2003, so in 1998 the Wenty Metro Cup team had 9 players that had played 1st grade in the ARL and there were another 5 in the reserve grade team. Last year was the one of the exceptions where they were fairly weak and finished 5th. They are looking strong because every other club except St Johns has gone backwards this year.

After the weekend I am thinking that there are now 3 tiers:

top - St Johns, Wenty, Entrance

middle - Cabra, Mounties, Windsor, Auburn

bottom - Burwood, Kingsgrove, Blacktown

I think Wenty will flog Windsor this week. I suspect Gould has convinced Windsor to fill the team up with U/19's and they are just not up to it. And at the same time Tricky Trindall is languishing in A Grade.

Interesting, as my info was 3 of the players played NSW cup last week, going up for that week, and then 4 regular NSW cup players were dropped to accommodate the parra players coming down to prems...could be wrong

An all U19 squad would basically get towled most games and not help development at all. Shame if true...

Leon Bott, a regular in the Broncos team when only 18 is listed on the bench for Blacktown this week.

Still no sign of Trindall at Windsor.

Kurtis Rowe, one of Burwood's tryscorers on the weekend has been promoted to the Balmain RE State Cup team and 4 of his Wenty opponents have been similarly elevated.

Match of the week is St Johns vs Mounties at Belmore.

I think Bott has been playing union for Penrith up until recently. Should be interesting to see how he goes back in league. The coach just needs to make sure he knows that he can't tackle someone in the air.

Windsor have left out 2 of their 4 u/19 players that have been playing each week. The props have been replaced by guys a couple of years older.

Burwood did this, playing a lot of Tiger's fringe NYC players around the start of the year, and found that most of them physically were getting monstered. It just doesn't work, playing boys against men...

Cabramatta BRC have made it three wins on the trot this afternoon with an 11 tries to 4 romp of the Kingsgrove Colts. The Blues led 36 to 6 at halftime and went on with the job in the second stanza winning 64-24 despite conceeding a few late tries.
Backrower Boyd Strickland was outstanding for the Blues, while giant speedster Louis Vaiotu showed his versatility with a great game in the much malign...ed fullback jumper that has cursed the injured Don Thompson and Sammy Aiga.
Winger Hala Katoa, centre Francis Vaiotu and big prop Saulala Houma all scored 2 tries a piece, while Strickland, Vaiotu, Joe Iosefa, Casey Ellis and Ben Ellis all crossed the stripe. Sharp shooter Blake Davies kicked 10 goals from 11 attempts.
Special mention to Joe Iosefa, Chris Uligia, Pat Lennard and Jade Ferguson who all made their BRC debut in Cabramatta colours.

***Around the grounds the St Johns Eagles kept their flawless start to the season in tact with a defining 46-32 victory over 2011 grandfinalists Mounties.***

Burwood lack some real punch in the prop department. Their lack of willingness to work hard as a team in D is their biggest weakness, though. They also had a lot out to injury (5 of their usual starting 13) which would hurt most, but more so a club that doesn't have a lot of depth.

Todays results were:

Windsor 32 Wenty 20
Entrance 58 Blacktown 14 (18-14 at H/T)

Wenty's 17 included 4 players listed in the Sydney Shield team as they lost another 3 to the State Cup side meaning that the team that beat Manly 58-18 today included 7 that played against Burwood last week in Bundy with KJ McKenzie scoring 4 tries on debut from the bench.

But in the Bundy game Wenty twice in the first half bombed tries only to see Windsor go the length of the field for a 24 point turnaround. Despite this it was 16-16 at H/T but Wenty, apart from Walter Veau, showed absolutely nothing in the second term.

Wenty are now out of the 5 and meet Cabra and Mounties in the next 2 weeks - they are now on a knife edge.

Meanwhile St Johns are now 4 points clear of the chasing pack with 6 from 6. Entrance also appear to be well placed as they have played every game in Sydney, meaning they get 8 home games in the last 9.

Table:

St Johns 12
Entrance, Mounties, Windsor, Cabra 8
Wenty 7
Auburn 5
Burwood, Blacktown 2
Kingsgrove 0

Former Sydney Rooster Monah Elahmad has been named on the bench for Auburn this weekend. Monah played 1 first grade game in 2001 and had also represented Lebanon. Will strengthen an already massive Warriors forward pack

Monah has played for Warriors in the past but hasnt been seen for a few years. He also played for Cabra in the metro cup in 2000.

Also, The Entrance have Sinbad Kali who played 1 game for the Storm in the front row.

Any idea if Leon Bott played for Blacktown. He is not in the list this week.

Yeah Monah has played alot of lower grades with Newtown and Souths that was after he made his debut in 2001.

Haven't seen Blacktown's team list from last weekend.
