It's inevitable that some teams - Dragons/Tigers/Eels/Knights especially - will at some point have memberships equalling capacity at certain home grounds.

Dragons, Tigers and Eels can offset this though by having a handful of games at larger stadiums and sell combination memberships or one game memberships etc.

If teams reach that point and teams are guaranteed capacity crowds just with home memberships then I say who cares about the away fans. If people want to be guaranteed a chance to see their team they should buy their own home memberships. There's plenty of other games to go to.

First in, first served.

Sorry doc have to disagree. There should always be a place for away fans in the stadium, adds to the atmosphere.

Sorry. Disagree with anybody stating first in best dressed and that away teams have no rights. Nearly every sport in the world has designated a section even if its a small one for away teams.
To rob them off that right is disgusting and you should all hang your heads in shame.

First in best dressed. Lol imagine having Kogarah packed out with only saints supporters. Would be shit for the opposition playing there.

Great idea tigers.

1000 away fans vs 29,000 Knights supporters has the same effect as 0 away fans.

Even if you have 1000 available seats, the 1001st person would still complain.

I want memberships to be so popular in the NRL that there'd be waiting lists!

I'd rather just see the money already in the club's pockets for the entire season rather than relying on away fans to show up. And to be honest, the atmosphere of 100% totally biased crowd just adds to the game.

When former players talk about coming to Newcastle in the 90s they all said how intimidating it was - but how it added to the spectacle.

Meh, the issue solves itself. If teams start outgrowing their suburban grounds, they'll start playing more games at the SFS and ANZ, or they'll lose money. Which do you think they'll choose? As it stands, there will be countless games that won't be sold out this year that away fans will have no problem attending.

It hardly seems like the end of the world if Tigers sell out Leichhardt purely on memberships.

True. If Merge can't even sell out a finals game, what makes people think away fans are going to be turned away during the regular season?

While I agree with most of your points and how great it would be to have waiting lists for games etc...

I cannot agree about the atmosphere thing - it's only really true if the home team is winning. DEAD if the away team kicks your arse.

Well it's all just a matter of personal opinion but I have been to too many games at Newcastle where the game was "dead" but turned around purely on the overwhelming numbers of a bunch of parochial supporters trying to rev everybody back up.

It's never quiet for long up here.

Edit: okay the players might have had something to do with it too :p

I think a lot of the points being brought up are a non issue. Most clubs are averaging what, 14 or 15 thousand? You still get a lot of games where the attendance is 10 thousand or less. Once we start getting sellouts on a week to week basis then it's time to start talking about members only and waiting lists etc. But people's interest in attending rugby league matches has done nothing to suggest this will ever happen.

I think they do this in the NFL. Obviously seats are harder to come by for an NFL game, but I think season ticket holders even have the option of selling their seats game by game

Increase prices of tickets, make a paid waiting list. Rather that then get 2k people more and have 60k empty seats at ANZ.

Spot on. Maybe have a ticket window for Sharks fans to buy tickets. Capped at a % of the capacity.

I would hate to miss a game due to not having a chance to go. What if a player debuts & the club can't get tickets? His parents miss out on watching him play. A good initative just needs some tweeks.

Another thing they used to have cheap GA for away members. What happened to that? It was great it got more away fans that might not of gone otherwise. Also might get more members as well.

Once NRL teams get capacity crowds on a regular basis then the NRL can push for increased capacity. If the likes of Parra sell 18k ticketed members and have 2k general public then there should be close to 20k every match. The ground wound demand an upgrade

Whilst it would be great to have waiting lists for ticketed memberships and full houses, I think an allocation for away fans is important. Just like they do in the UK with soccer...a bit of banter between fans is part of the atmosphere.
