We played really well against City. We also are missing several players at present. We just had a f**ked draw and despite a couple of losses were fairly competitive.

Meanwhile United went 2 down against Hull and were absolute tripe against Norwich.

We have a run home with every top 8 side bar United at home, which also helps. I don't think we're title contenders (but we are right up there still on the table) but I do think we're a good shout for the top four, and we'll do pretty well from here on in.

I think City will run away with the title. United depends entirely on what they do in January. There are some big flaws in that side, with guys like Ferdinand and Evra shot ducks and a very average central midfield (bar, when fit, Carrick). Rooney has generally been outstanding this year though, and you can never discount them despite the manager.

And, whilst I cant blame refereeing decisions for our losses, we had a few terrible calls against us (principally the offside call against City, and a few pretty clear penalties not given - although if the one was given on Suarez against City Skrtel probably should've been pinged for a couple of penalties same game, such is his grabbing technique). That sort of luck swings around in football, we'll be beneficiaries in future games.

If Liverpool are contenders then so are Everton.

Suarez will get them points against the sh!tter sides in the league but the big teams are doing well at limiting his involvement (didn't see him touch it once in the first 20 min against Chelsea) and as soon as his form drops so will Liverpool. In saying that, if they can keep crushing the mid table/bottom clubs than they should make a decent push for the top 4.

Saw a stat earlier today. Suarez has 19 goals this season. 16 against the lowest 7 sides and 3 against the teams placed 1-13.

Won't be long before City is on top and United are back in the top 4. Without any reinforcements in Jan i can see it finishing:
1. City
2. Chelsea
3. Arsenal
4. United

I saw the same stat, then worked out how many teams 1-13 he has played. Stats are pure crap put in bad sentences.

City and Chelsea played the perfect formation against Suarez when there was 1 lone striker, would have been a different tactic used IF Sturridge played.

I'm not all that fussed on it to be honest, we went to City and gave them the best game any club has, remember they have belted Spurs, Newcastle, United and Arsenal there.

Top 5 finish for Liverpool is completely on the cards this year.

5th isnt good enough though. 5th place and Suarez will leave, which in turn will see us utterly f**ked.

Need 4th.

 You left the Etihad with the same amount of points the other 8 teams that have played there left with.

You've had your best start to the season in years, yet you're behind Everton and only 2 in front of United.

The last time Sturridge played you lost to Hull didn't you?

You get 5th and Suarez will be gone. Then you'll be back to fighting it out with West Brom for 7th.

For Liverpool getting Xavi Alonso getting back would be a big plus. Alex Song could also be worth a shout. Probably need a decent 3rd striker as well, Aspas is dog balls. They've got a million backs but are short in midfield & forwards - Suarez doesn't get good enough service often enough from the middle. Rodgers gets hailed as a bit of a messiah but I think he's been a bit lucky in his recruitment - good buys but also plenty of utter shit buys, expect he's managed to make the good pay off big and minimise the shit.

United need a central midfielder who isn't a useless lampshade. geniuss paid 28 mill for him but wouldn't stump up a bit more for a far superior player in Herrera - logic. Alonso would be good for them as well, but probably won't happen with his Liverpool connection. Also need a left back as Evra is a massive liability.

Arsenal need a class striker or else they won't be a realistic chance of winning the title. Giroud tries hard but just blows hot and cold too often - started the season off well but as of late resembles an A-League player with some of his finishing.

Don't know what Chelsea need, there seems to be no system to their recruitment . They've gone through about a billion forwards of late yet still seem to be lacking in the area. Torres, Ba, Eto'o, Schurrle and it's still not enough. Maybe someone in on loan until Lukaku comes back from Everton, although that probably won't get them the class they're after.

Tottenham need a left back but that's probably it. No doubt the amount of purchases they've made in the last few windows has unsettled the squad and they still haven't properly gelled as yet. Soldudo is a completely wrong fit for the way they've wanted to play. Actually scrap what I said just before, they need another decent striker - Soldudo, Adebayor and Defoe aren't going to make you serious contenders any time soon.

As for City we need to get the two donkeys out in Garcia & Dzeko. Be lucky to get a quarter of what was paid for Garcia, Dzeko though will command at least 20 mill pounds given he still has the reputation of a good striker. Won't happen this window but I'd say it's odds on for the next, with Garcia to be replaced someone at around Fernandinho level/calibre (Matic, Pogba, Matuidi, Witsel, etc). Doubt anyone will come in at all this window, maybe a loanee but that's it.

I dont think Kaboul will ever play again, Ledley King MKII

Wouldn't surprise me if we look for another CB as our injury list is horrendous atm and playing every game with Dawson who is very slow and Cherrycheese who is very inexperienced is costing us points. Verts is out for a while.

Defoe is on his way to MLS.

Hard not to agree with everything here.

Rodgers has made some good signings (Coutinho and Sturridge) but they'd be struggling if Suarez wasn't in the form that he's in. Almost similar to how AVB was getting praised last season when Bale was smacking them in from all over the place.

No, the last time Sturridge played we drew 3 all with Everton.

We have had our best start to the season with all our tough games away from home done.

We get 5th and Suarez leaves, cool, means we get 100mil plus to blow like Spurs did.

In 2013, we played 10 or so games without Suarez, and lost one game. Doesn't exactly spell out 'totally useless without Suarez'. Just remember we created our best league start in something something years without Suarez.

Is that buy-out clause effective immediately, or only comes into effect if Liverpool make the CL?

You mean if we DON'T make the CL? You'd think it's surely the latter.

No, I mean the buy out clause only comes into effect if they make the CL. I'm sure I read that somewhere.

If Liverpool don't make the top 4, Suarez would want to make it easier for himself to leave, hence the clause would not be valid in that situation and allow other clubs to offer a transfer.

Suarez wants to stay but only if we make the CL and that's fair. He signed the clause because he wants Liverpool to get what he's worth imo

I see it as him signing the new contract so there is a definite release clause. Instead of that hocus pocus 40m one him and his agent thought he had which meant he was forced to stick around a year longer than he wanted to.
