Well that's a given, all it will take is for the Raiders to be serious contenders and everybody in Canberra will be the Raiders number 1 fan again, that's just the culture here. Just look at last year we were struggling to pull a crowd of 10 thousand, then we make the finals and everybody in Canberra who just weeks earlier were bagging us saying we were hopeless, start falling over each other for tickets.

It wouldn't matter what the jersey design was, if it looked like we might make the grand final they would sell like hotcakes down here.

The changing of the green colour did make a difference to Raiders supporters when the SuperLeague farce occured, so I do think the appearance of the jumper does matter for supporters.
The V shaped style of the current Raiders jumper is colour friendly and RL friendly!
I hope your side goes well.

If your talking about the SuperLeague jersey, that was more to do with the fact that we were in the SuperLeague (I became a Bears supporter for the year and many of my friends either swapped team or stopped following RL)

If your talking about the jersey we had after we got rid of the SuperLeague one (the ozzie mail jersey), it was not very popular because it was to different from our original, our colours went from lime green, blue, white and yellow to emerald green and fluro yellow. It didn't look like a Raiders jersey.

But I agree with you the jersey design does effect whether or not a fan will buy a jersey, but only if it is very different from anything we have ever done.

Canberra bandwagoners on the other hand are not as inhibited, their only thinking is that they must be seen in Raiders gear now, and if the Brumbies are going well and the Raiders are not they must be seen wearing Brumbies gear because that's the popular thing to do, it's more of a fad to them then an obsession like a fan or a not as obsessive supporter.

This thing? shocker.

I liked that Raiders jersey. The green and yellow worked well for the nation's capital, just like Maroon (for Qld) and yellow does for Brisbane and navy blue (for Vic) and yellow did for Melbourne until they added purple.

I disagree with the bold, I think that we have to let the old design die now (except for heritage round and the like) and let the new generation of players form their own identity. That old jersey reminds us of the good times but now it is time for us to stop living in the past and to try and create some new good times, and I think those new good times are just around the corner and who knows maybe in 18 years time we will be looking back on the time that we wore the current jersey and wishing we could go back and relive those times again to.

A fair enough point. My main argument is more that the current design is a downgrade. I could have accepted a V style jersey but it needed to be done smarter (as with the Manly V). For starters, the white/blue/gold/white is too busy and needed to be reduced to blue/white/gold or similar to thin it right out. All that aside I would have much preferred an evolution of the classic design.

but I guess they get points for trying something a bit different

What, by decidng to draw a line and have maroon on one side and yellow the other. Would have taken 2 seconds to come up with a league version of a roar strip.

Why not come up with something that has some type of link the the old BRL. Remember the old brisbane team that used to play in the midweek cup (red & white jersey) copy that and use broncs colours.

I also preferred when Qld NRMA had its own logo, rather than the dated-looking NSW/generic one they're using now

I am guessing you mean the RACQ (Royal Automobile Club of Queensland),

the NRMA is New south wales Roads Motoring Association, nothing to do with QLD.

No it isn't. It is the National Roads and Motorists' Association. It was founded as the Australian National Roads Association in 1920 and became the NRMA in 1924.

Cheers Prom, & apologies to deanjrob.

I always thought it was founded and based in NSW, therefore the N stood for NSW.

The Australian National Roads Association, which would become the NRMA, was launched in 1920. Its original aim was not to provide road service or insurance, but to lobby for the improvement of roads in New South Wales. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NRMA

There you go the N stands for National. I've learned something today.

So would I, but I don't think that the current one is that bad.

That's the the Ozemail jersey (which I accidentally called ossie mail before), it was an attempt to redesign the Raiders brand, you may be able to notice on our logo that Victors beard was supposed to be the same greens as the jersey but the lime green on his beard looked like fluro yellow on the jersey. Anyway the logo was accepted by the fans pretty quickly but the new colours and jersey where not.

Well actually it doesn't work well for us because our territory's national colours are blue and gold, that's why there incorporated in to all our sports teams colours. Though most people would say that lime green was our unofficial colour, I think there was even a petition to make it one of our national colours once.

I have heard NRMA Insurance has ef all to do with the NRMA Roadside Assistance...

Some big insurance company just bought the rights to a valuable brand...

Pretty Smart... All those old ducks fell for it

No, they used to be the same organisation and operated as such for 75 years, but the members voted to split the roadside assistance and the insurance divisions into two separate companies in 2000. The NRMA members - who used to share in the profits from the insurance through rebates on their own insurance - were made shareholders in the newly formed NRMA Insurance.
