I'll give him credit, he seems to have matured a bit this year, but still has more to go. Last night after retiring, the crowd booed him off the court and he said "Sorry" - what's the kid supposed to do? He didn't want to go out like that, and he was injured. He's gotta think of himself, the longer he went on, the worse that injury could've gotten putting him out of the game for longer!

That merkin has not matured at all.

If Hewitt would have retired under those circumstances nobody would have batted an eyelid. Tomic has a very ugly history of throwing the towel in. That will not be easy for him to shake off.
Australia does not like a bigmouth who does not make use of their talent. Tomic fits that bill.

Surely it was obvious to everyone watching that he was genuinely injured? After the very first point he was grimacing in pain and trying to stretch out his groin and his movement was even worse then it usually was.

Yes but he only JUST lost the set...surely you at least try it for another set. He was barely even trying FFS!

Loving some of these results here today in the womens. Casey is up (although very early days), and Hantuchova is going the distance in set 3 with Pliskova - currently 9-9. Stosur and Ivanovic still to come.

He has a whole year of tennis to play, why play on with it and risk being out for even longer?
I reckon he was honestly injured and I've see people push injuries before and then blow the rest of te season away, whether it be athletics, footy or tennis.
The crowd didn't get what they paid for but isn't the more important thing his health?

Agree with you here mate. Some people are judging him based on reputation.

Each to their own on the matter - we all know what they say about opinions.

Casey Dellacqua - dominant performance. First Aussie through to round 3!

Well he has to prove that it isn't a regular thing. To be fair so did Novak early in his career though.

My gosh... the muscles on Stosur... where do they come from? Her back muscle just stick out like a sore thumb in that dress she's got on, and her biceps... FMD they're HUGE! I can't imagine they come from running around and playing tennis, she must work out at the gym, but with a tennis schedule it would be very weary on her body!

Rafters comeback is short-lived - him and Hewitt out of the doubles in straight set.

That beautiful number from Canada also through in straight sets.
