Did we really give Sione 450K??[/QUOTE]

I doubt it. The $$ were never revealed as far as I'm aware. I pray not as that is a stupendous amount for an un-proven 1st grader (soon to be proven once position is actually made final)

looking at back row options to repave Beau ( If that is DEFINITELY happening ) I think Greg Bird is going to end up being our best option for best success for the club. He would only have about three years left in him I would think and he'd be a good replacement for Beau. He is also ideal to have there as a fill in for the (hopeful) improvement of Tapine and FitzGibbons, Taylor and Yates!

I just don't see the likes on Sika Manu, Lewis Brown, Thaiday etc coming to little ole Newcastle.

450k is what he signed on at the dogs for, and I assume he'd want us to get somewhere close to that.

We'd be crazy to give smith anywhere near 350k.
Snowden will be 450k+ and agree with Tariq at around that number too.

That means uate, korbin, gagai, mullen, sione, snowden and tariq will take up roughly half the cap, leaving an average of ~200k for the other 18 players in the squad. and that's not including BJ, jimmy mac, and scott (if he sticks around).

I've heard Tariq is actually our highest paid player followed by Scott who was given quite the upgrade when we extended his contract.

If Scott is in fact leaving we'll have some money to play around with but I fear it'll go into just upgrading contracts and offering blokes like Smith way too much to stay instead of signing a replacement to actually help the squad.

Saying that though even if we had a truck load of cash nobody decent would probably want to come here anyway. The only signing we've made that other clubs were after is Tariq and that was with a lot of money, his brother and either Bennett or Stone (who he has a good relationship with) at our disposal.

Hopefully all the young blokes like Sione, Gags and Korbs that had a lot of interest elsewhere signing back on and pledging their loyalty to the club will help make the place seem a bit more attractive to potential signings. For all the trouble we have getting blokes here none of them ever seem to want to leave (apart from Boyd but he's Boyd and would probably follow Bennett to the Middle East).

Myles would be a great signing.

Doubt it would happen but he does have the Qld connection to Hages.

yeah i think Myles would be great.
Bird, even Gallen is starting to entertain other clubs.
or are there any like origin players who played one or two origins out there?
relatively cheap qualitiy

but i think we need a half that has a never say die attitude.
someone like a foran, or a josh Reynolds(not that i like him)
but players like that.
our halves allow themselves to die off

His attack is crap. It was embarrassing watching his "creativity" yesterday. Chip kicks on the 3rd and 4th tackle, kicks to centres and wingers, kicks to no one. How the hell did we win Origin last year with the Canterbury halves?

So we can revise his contract up to close near 600K?

I would be getting onto Gallen's manager ASAP but if he leaves the Sharks I would not mind tipping it is a premiership capable club he goes to. I am amazed he is still at Cronulla personally given he would walk into any side in his sleep.

Might sound like a stupid one but what about Todd Carney? He's an absolute f**kwit no doubt but I don't think any of his indiscretions were so bad that the fans couldn't come around (he hasn't assaulted any women or tried to kill anyone from what I remember).

The NRL might also help us out financially it they work out that Todd is probably coming back and keeping him out of Sydney is probably their best shot at not having another headline.

It'd be a big risk (and one I don't think the club would take given their comments). I normally wouldn't even consider it but we need a half and he's probably the most talented we could realistically get. He's also the right age just to be a stop gap before Lamb is ready.

I really don't think the club would go for it though and probably for good reason. I'd be constantly worried about the headlines...and Todd probably wouldn't consider Newcastle either.

Better as an opportunistic attacker, yeah. Carney can't defend to save himself, and his organisation skills aren't much better. I've seen Mullen take the organiser role on much better than Carney ever has in his career. Carney and Mullen wouldn't compliment each other very well.

We're long shots to snare a quality half with Manly also in the market and having the bank to throw at one. Isn't Darcy Lussick off contract at Parra? Could be a good pickup for our front row.

I'd like to see us pick up Mitch Cornish for depth, hopefully Brock Lamb can step up. In terms of forwards, that young bloke from the warriors Albert Vete looks like abit of a beast and is off contract

What happened to the beast we bought from the Warriors last year - James Taylor??

He's not exactly a Beast but Taylor is only young and pushing for consistent form in NSW CUP against some bigger bodies!! Doesn't do a bad job to be honest, I think he still playing in Lock forward position. He's Gallen esque in style, stocky etc. Give him time.
