2015 contract situations

We seem to be the only club that upgrades everyone's contracts which leaves us no room to bring in new players.

Do we have literally no third party money?

It's the Knights. Even if there was a big enough market in Newcastle for it (which there isn't) I'd highly doubt we've secured any anyway. Just looking at the lack of signage at the ground and on the jerseys this year it seems we're having difficulty securing enough sponsorship for the club let alone additional third party ones for players (remember TPS need to be seperate - i.e. You can't have a third party sponsor for a player that's already providing sponsorship for the club).

This is why 3rd party payments need an overhaul as it defers the purpose of a salary cap levelling out the playing field.

you hear this crap a lot about certain players. hohaia would probably go to Melbourne and kill it. Blake Green is going very well under Bellamy after being labelled as shit by many. Bellamy is not afraid to give so called has beens a crack and make them into much better players. Bennett was the same. Not all work. I know that. For the right price what have you got to lose. Lance has played some very good seasons at the Warriors as both a half and fullback. The bloke can organise a game. That is all I want.

He is a fullback, always has been

And we have Stone, bot Bellamy or Bennett

The fact that they're uncapped and not published scare the crap out of me...not gonna lie. The Dogs contract for Fifita was made up of mostly third party money not under the cap so it's obviously something a lot of clubs use regularly.

As much criticism as we give our own club's management of the cap, what else are they really supposed to do? They don't upgrade the players' contracts so they're competitive with other club's offers who have more to throw around and we lose them too on top of not being able to sign anyone. Everyone we've re-signed or are trying to re-sign this year have or had interest elsewhere. People are delusional if they don't think we were going to need to give them significant upgrades. Even someone like Smith who at his age really should be on a pie and coke contract realistically can't be given that when the Roosters (who could just sign him on pretty much third party money) are after him.

I'm sure someone with greater understanding of financial matters can answer this but why the f**k would any player or his manager risk the players income with unguaranteed money???? Wouldn't you want the bulk of your wage guaranteed??? I really am sceptical at how much unguaranteed TPA $$$$ the player's at the richer clubs are accepting as part of their salaries.

It is guaranteed, just not by the club.

If (say) James Packer is offering you a contract to promote (say) his Macau Casino IF you sign with Souths.... that is pretty solid. Probably more solid than an offer from most clubs to be fair.

Yes BUT Mark Gasnier and Darius Boyd both had issues with large amounts of TPA $$$$. There is no guarantee of receiving $$$ through TPA's.

Wasn't the missing 400K at the Broncs leagues Club to sure up TPA $$$$ contracted players had not been paid????

Depends on how the deal is structured. Some could be cash up front.

The rich clubs don't have these issues, and now managers know the pitfalls I would suggest players won't have it happen again.

I would have thought the Broncs were a rich club yet they needed to 'find' 400K to make up for problems contracted players had getting their TPA $$$$.

There are absolutely no assurances for players when it comes to TPA deals.
