Soo is once a year, I bet they weren't logging off premium tickets for $50 for the soccer game, and it was a meaningless friendly. It's a good example of how people will turn out and pay good money if it is an event not just a run of the mill weekly game. NRL super hyped Friday and Sunday game every week at Allianz and ANZ that is a must do weekend event in Sydney every week would help get the 30k plus crowds nrl games should be getting.
Arnold was going on and on about how they got 83k. He should be wondering why 83k people support a team on the other side of the world rather than the local side.

Maybe Arnie should be worried why 80,000 will support a team 15,000 miles away and not his
Is it possible for soccer supporters to just enjoy the game rather than claim they are taking over and that the NRL should be worried blah blah blah. Having Chelsea and Tottenham travel out here doesn't have anything to do with rugby league. The apparent rise of Aleague (despite falling crowds and ratings) has not been to the detriment of the NRL. This is all a part of the daily telegraph 'rugby leagues in crisis' theme. It was Union taking over in early 2000's, then afl was taking over and now soccer is taking over. What a load of sh*t!

Yeah, it's a massive wank from a massive dickhead.

It always rugby league that has to be 'worried' whether it's AFL, Union, and Football. The three throughout the decades have tried to bring the game down one way or another. You don't see Union and football going at it or Union/AFL but it's fair game towards rugby league. Pretty much 3 vs 1 against rugby league.
It began with Union attempting to bring down league, then AFL with the expansion teams/Lions three-peat and Swans success, and now the Wanderers 'take over' of West Sydney.
Last hurrahs for league's dying breed
By Mike Carlton

"Yeh, mate, grand finals are different, mate. There are two teams out there, mate, and only one can win. So ya gotta lift a level, mate.
"Like, y'know, mate, there'll be a fantastic atmosphere out there, mate, but it's a game of two halves so anything can happen.
"But me and the blokes will do what we gotta do, mate, and at the end of the day, it'll be the team with the most points what wins."
There is something pleasantly familiar about the rituals of the rugby league grand final. Nothing changes. It comes around in due turn, like those other reassuring Australian festivals: the Royal Easter Show, the Archibald Prize, Anzac Day, the Melbourne Cup. The familiar cliches are unwrapped and hung out again, like Christmas decorations.
Yet cold common sense tells you that rugby league is slowly dying. Saying so will enrage its fans, who will bombard me with emails about rah-rah toffs in tweed jackets with leather patches.
But the game is now a peculiar and obscure beastie isolated in a tiny corner of the world, like the giant tortoise of the Galapagos Islands.
For proof of this, look no further than the coming Kangaroo tour to Britain.
Once, league players would fall over themselves for the honour of wearing the Australian green and gold in Leeds and Wigan. Now they are falling over themselves to be "unavailable".
Contrast this to the Rugby World Cup, the world's biggest sporting event this year. In time, league will fade and fold back into union, and Australia will be unbeatable. But it will take a while yet.
:lolh dear! You just brought back memories of this infamous article written by none other than that scumbag Mike Carlton before the 2003 Rugby World Cup

The fact those codes are united against rugby league and not against each other speaks volume of who should be truly be worried and it ain't rugby league. The three codes think league is the weak link but it's proven to be resilient and strong against the odds.

Crowd will struggle to hit 30k. I think it will be 27,000ish.
Seems awfully low? Do Manly draw in Brisbane?
