"if you're expecting .. bumper ... crowds this weekend you're gunna be disappointed

apart from Thursday night the rest of the round is being played in smaller venues & while I think these will be well patronised
they won't be bumper attendances

Broncos V Souths 40-42,000
Parra V Manly 16-18,000
Newc V Warriors 16-18,000
Titans V Tigers 12-14,000
Cowboys V Roosters 15-17,000
Penrith V Bulldogs 13-15,000
Sharks V Raiders 12-14,000
Dragons V Storm 11-13,000

somewhere between 135 & 151K for the round"

Our code is still struggling to build crowds outside our membership numbers.
You can settle for mediocrity or you can strive for excellence.

If the overall weekend crowds are around 140 thousand, and our memberships are around 260 thousand, then half of the membership figure is 130 thousand for 8 games of footy, so we are only attracting around 10 thousand non members.

That has to change. The Broncos had a 33 thousand average last year, they should be looking to make that 40 thousand averages and really need to be bringing in new fans, like students, tourists and those neutral fans Dave Smith was banging on about.

Sydney getting the new boutique stadiums should help crowd figures.

Some teams like the Tigers who have 7 thousand members should be alot higher than that, all clubs should have targets of minimum 20 thousand members to just stay afloat. (the tigers brand is massive to kids)

If the Broncos get 40 thousand to Thursday night footy, that is a good start.

One of the best Bronco derbies is against Canberra Raiders. They need to build on derbies like this one, and the Titans.
Two teams (titans raiders) who need the bigger clubs to turn up, and both have to play a part in creating a blockbuster derby atmosphere.

I think people underestimate the brand strength of the bears.

If you must have a side on the gold coast, imo you talk to the bears and say look if you want in we want you based in the gold coast, you can organise some away games in north Sydney against clubs like easts who will move a home game at the drop of a hat.

My point is the bears had a strong brand and that shouldn't have gone to waste, especially for a club like the titans.

As for stadium, I thought one of the things killing the titans was the stadium rent, that being the case, I would have put the central coast stadium ahead as atleast they wont get killed by the rent there... see the mariners.

For the record I am not a north Sydney fan and never have, despite my nickname I have always been a Canberra fan from way back.

Penrith v dogs will be close to the Townsville match up in terms of crowd.. if not more.

Also I wouldn't be surprised to see the titans get 10k and post 16k, par for the course really.

Maybe - but there's no denying CC has long been a league town. Given GC has failed thrice and is now on the edge for it's 3rd go...

Can see some merit in your post but these two items above are nowhere near true. They might be physically (i.e. straight line distance) closer... but travel time, both are closer to Gosford. 25-30 mins max from the end of the M1 to Gosford, fair whack more than that end of M1 to either Manly or the City.

Huh?
Stadium - CC already had one. GC had to lobby for one.
Big money backer - CC had f**king John Singleton.
Population - hadn't sustained it three times before, why would it now?
NSW or QLD saturation - Titans yes
AFL risk - wasn't really a consideration then, but also goes to Titans.

Not sure how you arrived at some of the above :/
The GC Chargers did not fail .
They were 2m in the black when they were a casualty of the new comp after the SL war .

I think people underestimate the brand strength of the bears.

In NSW of course, In QLD not so much.

Leaving QLD with only two NRL teams would just be poor planning.

Another SEQ team is worth money in terms of Television alone, they could be called the Hitlers and still have more value than another NSW team for this point alone.

So I just booked some tickets to Broncos Rabbitohs in two days time. Pax is very alarming.

30,977.

If this were Friday the Pax would be 10k plus. VOR - I have to disagree, this is not going to be great.

Thats pathetic to the point of being embarrasing
A city of 2 million plus
With 1 team
& they cant find 40k fans for an opening game against the defending premiers:oops:

& this BS that thursday nite is to blame is laughable
That should be the reason the place isnt full
Not that it will barely be half full

The myth of the Broncos n Qlder passion is exposed again
f**king jokes:roll:

Very poor. I would have thought 45k easily beimg the season opener and the bunnies fans will be there in numbers. is there a chance away fans could outnumber home fans?

Agree about the Bears brand. Everyone loves bears, mums kids, dads even.
It is hard to beat the Bears branding, but we never had smart enough people in the code to recognise that back when they kicked them out.

If it was me, i would bring the Bears back somehow.

Yes, i am looking forward to super saturday.

No need for you to start crowing. Your 100 year old club is not exactly setting the crowds alight.
Look, it is a Thursday night, so many families with kids wont be going, so you lose half your crowd right there, and then you have the normal workers who cant make it as well because they need to get up early.

Then you have the shoppers, the watch it on the big screeners, and the coach patotoes,

Over 30 thousand is very good so far.
I just been to the shop up the road and the owner and his son are going to use one of their awesome foursome games to this game.
So it suits some people, but not others.
I am going because it keeps my weekend free.

As for Raiderdave, he should become like the raiders crowds,,,, missing,.

The Raiders Broncos was one of the biggest derbies, and they should start rebuilding those old rivalries.
If you think back and remember instead of just making stupid comments, when Mal and Ricky and Lazarus and Wicky and Daley were up against Thorn and Webke and Petro, Gee and Langer Walters and renouff, those were some of the biggest derbies in our code.
these guys have short memories.

They are hoping for ~40k.

Sydney media have been claiming it will sellout since the draw was announced because apparently thursday night games are only a problem for Sydney.

Josh Massoud claimed on twitter last night that it's going to be a sellout.

traffic in Sydney verse traffic in Brisbane.

Sydneys is atleast 3 times as bad.

Size of city, Sydney is way larger and more spread out then Brisbane so they have to travel further.

Obviously Thursday night is not ideal, but its not a shitfight like a Sydney Monday or Thursday night is.

Just like a Thursday night would be easier in Canberra and Townsville then Brisbane.
