How about instead of plucking fantasy figures from thin air and then winging when they aren't reached we use our brains to predict a crowd?
Souths v Easts have only drawn 30k+ to two SA H/A games. One was the exceptional 59708 to round 26 in 2013. Today will be less than that as there is much less at stake.
The other was 32125 back in 2007. Again, late season in Round 25 so more at stake. Souths have come on a bit since then , so this is a reasonable high estimate.
Traditional R1 fixtures at the SFS draw from 27k to 35k - but the sfs is a more favourable venue for both fansets, and now is not the first round, so 35k is probably over.
Final estimate - 30k to 32k, so, I don't know, 31679
Calls for 40k+ are but wishful thinking and saying "this game should really bring in an x crowd" is a baseless assumption.
I agree 100%.
Even if you are proven wrong on the Souths crowd your basic point stands up. Fact is we have a league which attracts an average of about 16,000 to its H and A season games. We love 30K blockbusters but thy are few and far between.
Would we like to average 20,000? Of course. Do we? No.
Would we like to see Souths V Easts or Dogs V Eels regularly draw 40,000? Of course. Do they? No.
Lets stop beating ourselves up when we achieve attendances any rugby league of either code would die for and lets hope we see steady growth over time.
Shit crowd, where is that Cowboys knob end who bags every Sydney crowd when the so called RL heartland can only get 13k in their favoured saturday night timeslot????13,006 in North QLD.
Any excuses for the shit crowd dished up by Cowboys fans last night??? The Swans are the only team in Sydney you Tithead compared with 9 in Sydney. Troll.Steady growth over time , there was 100+ years to grow the crowds to a higher level it is right now. For 'blockbuster' games that can't even reach 35k between two Sydney fan-bases indicates there is something wrong with the teams ability to draw in there own 'heartland'.
For a 100+ year comp to have 30k crowds here and there isn't a strong heartland. The fact the Swans get bigger crowds than majority of NRL crowds is a sign of something wrong despite all the talk about heartland this and that but the numbers show otherwise.
The reason it won't happen is that ANZ is simply too far to go for how much walk up prices are for the casual souths fan. Their big regular game crowds have always been disappointing outside of the Easter game and the round 26 game in 2013.
Don't get me wrong, they have a much higher base of die hard fans which turn up every week, hence the consistent 17-19k attendance these days. But when you might expect a game might warrant a 40k+ turnout which would mean the casual supporters needing to turn up in great numbers, it invarably ends up well below expectations.
Bulldogs and parra can pull a crowd much easier when the stadium is only a 10 min drive from their home.
souths v easts crowds are only ever disappointing because of the limited amount from easts that show up
Week 2 and that 20k nrl goal looks a very distant dream.
Perfect weather in sydney, suburban ground that Is supposed to be convenient, a rivalry that generally produces a great game, manly a successful team for last few years and 10k turn up?

Yep agree Cowboys crowd wasn't acceptable.
Souths members/supporters will be out in full force.
It's your lazy and hopeless members/supporters who won't turn up in numbers when you should be. It's gonna be an absolute blockbuster. Day time match Sunday Arvo geez what more could you possibly want.
I expect a crowd of about 33k with only 5k Chooks fans turning up. I would say 24k Souths fans and 4k of neutrals.
Also to correct you in 2013 round 6 Souths v Storm at ANZ the crowd was 32,500.
Souths have had 20-22k at home games sometimes over last 3 years.
Souths home attendance crowd was 2nd or 3rd out of all teams last year and has been like that for the last few years.
The Roosters home attendance crowd figures should concern you. The figures are a bad look.
Firstly, our members don't have reciprocal arrangements with you lot as the dogs, eels and dragons do.
Secondly, it doesn't matter what the crowd is today, you will try and claim no more than 5k roosters fans turned up. As you said you have consistently averaged 20k over the last couple of years yet you expect a crowd of 35k to magically have 30k souths fans who don't seem to want to turn up to any other regular season game with Good Friday, the 32k against Melb and the rd 26 game in 2013 being the exceptions.
