To think one pre-season crowd will be greater than anything that Penrith, Cronulla, and Canberra will draw during the entire regular season is a indictment on the NRL and the clubs if anything. Yesterday crowd will outdraw 85% of regular NRL crowds now that's wrong.

Add the Cowboys to that list ;-). You miserable merkin.

Indeed and I'm sure people in those places would love to see the game taken to the people in those areas, yet no one cared enough to this point to mention it? :sarcasm:

To think despite the negativity the Auckland 9's/All-Stars got in there respective build-ups to get great crowds in spite of it is pretty amazing. Rugby league must be the only sport to have a constant negative narration by it's own media. You don't see AFL/RU/Football media constantly talking down there own code like the league media.

What was the crowd for the Nines. Looked terrible on TV. Looked a quarter full.

Close to sellout both days, it is a day long event, everyone isn't going to get there and leave at the same time or sit there for 6+ hours, they will be in and out of the stadium throughout the day going to activities and bars and such. That's why for Warriors games it filled up so quickly. Some people may also have bought 2 day passes but only went to one day.

It's not just the media, the culture of NRL clubs, particularly in Sydney, is generally pretty negative, clubs and officials always at each other, paranoid and selfish. There is more solidarity in other sports.

Agree somewhat on the Sydney thing.

But historically the NRL has had a leadership that has not fostered co-operation amongst clubs. That Super League shit did NOTHING to help that philosophy.

I think that is changing but its a slow process.

But the media is incessantly bringing the game down. Granted some boofhead players don't help the cause, but the constant muck raking and sensationalism from the media is such a handicap.

Rothtool and his rag will never change. Tha't's an agenda set by their overlord and will not change unfortunately. I think its a shame a bloke as knowledgeable and influential as Gould keeps death riding the game.

Its like its indoctrinated and they will not change it.

Link.? Someone else said ticket sales were 10% down on last year. No link provided for that either

"close to sell outs" is not good enough at this point of the season. The 9s and the All stars games should be sold out months in advance.

Both events need to be moved to locations where they'll be appreciated. I'd play the all stars game in Townsville in 2016 and the 9s in Perth.

whilst aboriginal people would be very passionate about the all-stars game, i don't think the majority of non-aboriginals are, so i don't think it's a game that will ever get massive crowds. maybe they can experiment with having the game where there are larger populations eg sydney, melbourne, brisbane. it should be on a saturday night too.

Complete Bullshit

Crowds greater than 20k out of season are beyond good.

Unacceptable is a Test match crowd in Sydney in season

Would be great taking the All Stars game to Townsville but that time of year is a risk, if you have a decent wet season the highways could be cut off in both directions thus not allowing fans to get to the game (people tend to pre book though up there so I guess from a financial stand point they wont lose much $ but its not a good look when theres a heap of empty seats). Cairns got/is getting 500mm of rain this weekend just to prove my point.

sold out months in advance indicates poor pricing usually.

the perfect price means all tickets will sell out at kickoff.

but typically you'd want it a few days before to account for any variations (weather, team performance etc.)

I reckon take it to the biggest country towns / non-capital cities, move it every year.

e.g. Dubbo, Wagga, Coffs Harbour, Townsville, Mackay, Toowoomba etc
