LIVE SUNDAY FOOTY A BIG TURN-ON

THE implementation of live *Sunday afternoon football has proven a ratings smash hit for Channel 9, with the Rabbitohs-Roosters blockbuster peaking at over 900,000 viewers.

The NRL match was the most-watched club game on a Sunday since 2012, underlining how Ray Warren live into lounge rooms on a Sunday afternoon is a guaranteed ratings winner.

Channel 9’s executive producer of NRL Matt Callander told us so far live Sunday afternoon football was up 10 per cent on last season. “Footy fans asked us for live *Sunday afternoon football and the great news from our perspective is they’ve given it a resounding thumbs up,” Callander said.

Thankfully, it looks like the live Sunday broadcast is here to stay and not a reversion back to the 1hr delay chockablock full of ads.

LOL at all the people in this thread complaining about the Ch9 Sunday game being live. For years, most of us here bitched about the delayed telecast (excluding the ppl in NZ, who got to see it live) and now we are complaining about the match being too late for people to attend since it became a live broadcast. Puhleeeeeease....

I'd much prefer the format as it is now compared to what was in previous years. And yes, it is natural for them to want the game to finish as close as possible to 6pm so they can go straight to the news and retain high viewership in Sydney and Brisbane. Ch7 does the exact same thing with their Sunday AFL broadcast in Melbourne since they started broadcasting the match live, with the game starting at 3:20pm instead of the traditional timeslot of 10 minutes past the hour (in their case, 3:10pm). Suggestions of the Sunday NRL game starting at 3:30-45pm and then having a half hour post game show will lead to a drop-off in viewership for the news as most casual fans are only interested in watching the game and that's it.

Someone should remind Ch9 Brisbane to put this logo on the top right of their screen during the Souffs/Tigers match

In my Mind the Live sunday time slot is now the best in the league.

Not only are Souths getting large FTA exposure every week but they now have a more friendly time slot for crowds.

I expect Souths Ave crowd will be a record this year.

If i am in charge of a club i would want the live Sunday time slot.
