It is now officially cheaper to fly to Melbourne and attend Origin in Melbourne, buy cheaper food and drinks than going to a game of Origin at Suncorp.

? I think we all need to start complaining about our food prices, and why the same company who control these prices at our stadiums are making our stadiums pay for the MCG and AFL crowds.
? We need to really think about this, they have not dropped prices at other stadiums, so our higher prices are paying their profits so the MCG and AFL get cheap food and drinks.
It stinks,

You should take in a hotdog thermos like the Burrow do.

Let run through the excuses to not attend NRL this season:
Food & drink
Transport
Weather
Ticket prices
Table position
'out of town' team eg Cowboys in NSW

It seems NRL has a lot more excuses to not attend than attend yet for other sports it's the complete opposite.

I was at an Origin back in the day when Lang Park outer had concrete terraces without seating, where I shit you not a whole roast chicken was thrown onto the field amongst other projectiles.

Funnily enough with all the romanticism about hills in Footy these days, nobody longs for the days of hard concrete terraces to sit on!

I was in the queue outside the SCG for the 1981 Grand Final, and when the gates didn't open on time, I shit you not, more than one full BBQ chook was thrown at the gates, along with bottles, cans, etc....

Also, the classic 'it's better on TV' because nothing is better than sitting at home watching thousand of empty seats. Ideally, there be no Thursday/Monday night football the moment there gone should see a increase in average attendance easily.

You do realise that Pax is a person. ? He works for the government and come up with the same system to judge speed limits for the qld police as well.
He use's the guesstimate system.

I see that other stadiums outside the MCG are paying for this grounds lower food prices. ?

The company that runs the MCG also runs other big stadiums like Suncorp. So by 'not dropping' the prices in those other stadiums, our codes are paying for the AFL crowd to have cheaper hotdogs and pies.
We have been conned again by the AFL.

this is a complete load of shit.

The AFL have had long discussions with the MCC and the catering company to lower the prices. The AFL bring 2M+ people to the MCG every year, they have some leverage there. I suspect they are also trying to get lower prices elsewhere too. The prices of food in stadium has a lot to do with how much the catering company has to pay the stadium for the rights to operate. I suspect the AFL lent on the stadium managers more than Spotless to get the prices down.

It was also the first thing the AFL CEO said when he was appointed. not just he said it in the press conference, it was the first thing he actually said in the press conference.

Not everything the AFL does is related to making life hard for the NRL. I'm pretty sure that making life hard for the NRL does not even rate a mention. They were getting a lot of negative feedback about variable ticket pricing for premium games and in stadium costs. Variable pricing has gone and they have managed to reduce prices at one of the major venues. well done Gill.

It going to be harder for the NRL to do the same thing because they play in so many places there just isn't the numbers of spectators to apply the same leverage to the stadium management to get a better deal. The AFL are finding hard elsewhere too. even Adelaide which had 1m+ spectators go to the AO to watch AFL last year essentially told the AFL to stick it.

seriously, the execs in these sports have enough problems without trying to one up each other over petty shit like this.

I was at SCG when NSW won its first Origin, I shit you not, every bloke in (whichever ever stand) threw their plastic cups of New in the air when the siren sounded. I assume every stand did it. We also fell backwards off our seats, onto the patrons behinds behind us ust proped us back up. Seriously, in today's stadia beer economy, that's about 1.2 trillion bucks on beer wasted.

The only downside of the night was captain and coach. Mortimer and Masters. I hate those merkins.

Aparent temperature in brisbane is 34.4. Probably more in suncorp, disgustingly humid.

No whinging about the cold!
