I have zero faith in a good decision being made if it's midley making it.

When is he being moved on.

He (and Chief i think they said; he's still chairmen, right??) has/have been confirmed to stay on until the end of the season, after that they will probably be moved on; but definitely not before....

Matt Gidley has done alright actually. Nothing he has done has contributed to the issues we have. If anything he has risen above the negative and held himself together in a dignified way. I have no doubt he will be moved aside but the jury is out as to whether it is a good decision. Plenty of CEOs with alleged pedigrees at other clubs have been far worse than him. You can bet your life that Gids would not try anything to cheat.

I'm starting to think if we give Rick Stone the job he may as well start next week and everyone can start preparing for the future.

Newcastle Knights prepare to go back to the Stone age

Rick Stone reckons he is a better coach now than when he last took over at Newcastle.

Stone is the frontrunner to replace Wayne Bennett, three years after stepping aside for the seven-time premiership mentor.

Stone's coaching record at the Knights is 46 per cent, a point higher than 699-game veteran Bennett's.

Knights officials, in conjunction with their transitional owners the NRL, will soon need to make a call on who takes the club into the future.

"Hopefully there's an opportunity there for myself," Stone said.

"When Wayne came it was a great opportunity for the club and myself to learn from Wayne. They may not have been successful years but I learned plenty off Wayne Bennett.

''The last few years I've been honing my skills and listening and learning from one of the very best. Hopefully I can be in a position to be a bit better than what I was when I had a go a few years ago."

Stone coached the Knights to an unlikely semi-final appearance in his final year in charge but is currently nurturing the region's upcoming talent in the NSW Cup.

Asked if he was a better coach now than when last in charge, the Fijian national coach said: "Definitely. Most coaches mature and improve as they go along.

''They soften their stance on some things and realise the game flows and changes a little bit in its application, where the trends and forces are heading.

You have to be at the coalface to keep up with the changes and I've definitely been doing that. I think I'm in a better position now to have a crack."

The Knights are emerging from arguably the toughest period in their history, which included the Alex McKinnon injury and the end of the Hunter Sports Group's controversial reign.

"The relationship with the team and the town needs to be consistent. For whatever reason, the last couple of years that hasn't been as transparent as it needs to be," Stone said.

"I'm not saying anything negative about Wayne there but we've had a few difficulties over the last few years which I don't need to go in to.

They feel like they need a bit more openness about their team. It's important to make sure the connection between the team and the town is solid."

The Knights will try to climb off the bottom of the ladder when they travel to Remondis Stadium to take on Cronulla on Sunday.

Boyd's an Australian and QLD representative player, who plays the game at a very high standard when he bothers putting in. I reckon there will be a number of clubs that would be happy to sign him up.

Henjak was worse. Spot Ons point still stands

How does his point stand when Bennett had no say whatsoever who the next Broncos' coach was going to be?
Bennett and Cullen had a massive fallout, hence why he left the Broncos in the first place.
By the time Griffin became the Broncos' first grade coach, Bennett was in his final year at the Dragons.

Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story

I get the feeling Stone and Bennett didnt see eye to eye..

"The relationship with the team and the town needs to be consistent. For whatever reason, the last couple of years that hasn't been as transparent as it needs to be," Stone said.

This is why id like to see Rick get the job. Focus on connecting with the town, get rid of this Super-Club image and go back to being the "working class underdogs".

It doesnt matter if the whole "working class" thing is actually still true, but an us-vs-them, Silvertails (big sydney clubs) vs Fibros (the little newcastle team punching above its weight), is the way to position the club and drum up support.

THAT should be the marketing angle for the next few years; "we're not a money club. we're the workers, the digger, the labourers, ect..."

Which clubs actually need a high priced fullback? Bulldogs? Titans? Dragons? Canberra? That's probably all he has to choose from.

My concern with Stone is that he may not be willing to make the tough calls on players like Gids because he won't want to rock the boat.

Good to see the boys do it for Wayne.
If Stone was the coach at halftime the team would've been flogged by 50

True, there weren't a lot of comebacks under Stone. Plenty under Bennett, but we've been shit enough to put ourselves in some horrible positions in matches.

Also had something to do with the cattle. As crappy as our forward pack is now, it's miles ahead of the Tolar and Kaufusi show.

lel.

But yeah, If the club has to stoop to the levels of Stuart and Elliot to get a coach, then all hope is lost. Really, we have a quality coach sitting in the wings, this shouldn't be a discussion at all.
Why does everyone have such a high opinion of Henry?

He's achieved nothing with some decent squads. His teams have been super inconsistent under his leadership.

Oh man, I just saw this posted another forum by a poster that used to (perhaps still does?) hang out here. Quite an infamous ex-poster, actually. Let's see if you can guess which one...
