2015 Team

Those answers sum up what we all really thought. Wayne was holding this team back from expansive attacking football which obviously frustrated stone. Also good to see stone wants to get better in the ruck which obviously means bringing in a wrestlingn coach. Great interview and it gives me confidence that we will be an exciting team next season.
Sigh.

You disagree Coby? Wayne brought a lot of good to our club no doubt but there is no denying the restricted way our team was playing from pretty much day dot of his tenure

I personally think Wayne could have done good things for us in 2015. He clearly had a plan to fix our discipline and basic play first then get the boys to build on that into a more complete team. It clearly took longer than expected and he pulled up stumps early.

Im hoping Rick doesnt "throw the baby out with the bath water" and continues to build on the base Wayne was creating and lets the boys open up when appropriate. I think this team is in a good place now

I think Stone has already hinted he will continue to build upon that base Joker. Will be interesting to watch out style develop over the next season.

Wayne's conservative approach without ruck dominance just isn't feasible but he's letting his personal crusade against wrestling cloud his mind. To try to win with a grinding style whilst being one of the worst wrestling teams is like trying to cook a gourmet meal with no fresh ingredients

Looks like srama might be available for next year, he would be a fantastic pick up. I rate him his a great little defender and can be dangerous out of dummy half.

Great input.
Beats the blatant rubbish you spouted.

Ive been through the wrestling thing before JW - we always have had a wrestling coach. Dont disagree with the rest of it at all. Just get tired of people getting worked up about things that arent an issue.

Reminds me of Price, wanting to throw the ball around after Bennet went. Didn't end well.

It's easy to knock Bennet but he's right in that he makes you earn it in the forwards. Can be frustrating but its required.

Pretty damning comments re. Boyd. Confirms what everyone else can see, that Bennet is manipulating him quite blatantly. Pretty ugly really.

I'm no Price fan and dare say he aint the best coach going around but that Saints side he inherited lost any and all mongrel they had in those few years under Bennett. They let the hard nuts go and kept the marshmellows.

Bennett's record in Newy is pretty poor too. Doesn't Stone have a better winning %??? Hopefully Stone will implement a game plan that requires our forwards to do the job before the pretty stuff happens. It's a no brainer really.

Yeah its just a similar frustration. Those shackles are there for a reason.

Stone is a good coach so I expect he will strike a balance. Be interesting to see if he can make his mark. Think he needs to be the bad guy a bit more.

The difference is that the way the Dragon's squad was balanced it made sense to play in the forwards and use that style. They had a tremendous forward pack so playing Bennett ball played to the squad's strengths. At the Knights however it's a completely different scenario. The squad has some quality backs but the forward pack is one of the poorer ones in the completion, as a result utilising a game plan that puts emphasis on the forwards didn't work for us.

I can understand Bennett's motivation for wanting to use that gameplay after he had success with it at the Dragons but he would have been better served playing more expansive football at the Knights which utilised our strengths in the backs. The penny finally dropped in the second half of this season but sadly it was too little too late. I can see why Stone would want the squad to play expansive football given it's success at the back end if the year.

The comparisons to Price are pretty pointless when the make up of the two sides were/are completely different. We've already proven that expensive works better for us.

They want big coin or theyre out a here

Though he hopes they can resolve the wrangle and remain in Newcastle, Mata’utia said nothing was guaranteed and he wanted what was best for himself and his family.
‘‘We all want to stay in Newcastle but if shifting elsewhere is the key, then that’s it,’’ he said.
‘‘Newcastle’s done a lot for us so we want to give them the respect that they deserve and give them a chance to offer us something.’’

Yeah, I wouldn't take it at all as a given that they will re-sign. Sounds like they're looking after themselves first and foremost, and fair enough. It's a shame, but it is what it is, and our club may well have let us down again on this one. Certainly wouldn't be anything new.

What I'd like to know is, why can't we be a club that shops a few players around mid-season in order to make signings happen? Not only do teams like the Broncos, Dogs and Roosters have bottomless pockets, but they also seem to have an ability to move players onto other clubs mid-contract if they need to get some cap space for yet another big signing. When have we ever done that? Surely we can find Aku or Jimmy a suitor? How much can we possibly need to free up, given the Dogs can afford all 3 boys and have just secured Brett Morris? I don't f**king get it at all. It's like we're an 8 year old in the playground trying to play footy with the big kids.

Should we really consider paying big $$ for all the brothers when really we should only k
Look to keep one for a respective amount of money?? Chanel and Pat are never going to be game breakers and I'd really REALLY hate to see is lose a Levi or Yates because of that.

I want Aku to stay on for two more years. I think he has something to prove. Jimmy whilst I love him would be the one I'd sacrifice to bring through a youngster. Depending of course what GAGAI is doing after next year.

Hang on, hang on.....

Darius just signs a contract for 400K ;-) and yet we apparently can't keep a rookie who's not worth near that???

World's gone mad.

No team would want Aku unless we pay them to take him, Jimmy is reliable but no world beater.

I still blame the club for failing to identify the best of our junior talent and not sign them. Very slow to move this lot.

As much as it pains we cannot let the club be played by this. We have to retain dignity and not be bullied by nobody managers like Hadad. We got Tariq. He said it himself. Stone was the sealer. We can sign quality players.

We are seen as fair game. Always have been. It is the NRL who continually allow the monopoly by bigger clubs.

I am disappointed in the NRL administration who treat us like second class citizens when it comes to help retaining juniors.
