I had to bend the grille down so I felt like I could see. As a result a ball fits through easily, but I figured I'd rather be able to see the thing and get out of the way than be relying on the lid all the time, lol

I never wore a helmet ... mind you i gave up playing 10 yrs ago

I used to pack shit batting when i was a kid .... but when i was about 16 and finally got that its much easier to hit it if you get behind the ball then my fear of getting sconned went away .... getting smashed in the ribs a few times pulling and realising the pain only lasts a while helps too

I think they're just a safety net for the most part. I've been in first grade the last two weeks and honestly none of the bowlers are quick enough to do any real harm even at that level. In my comp anyway. Even the Comets opener is probably only in the 120km range at a guess...

The first day of a test match is generally on a Thursday and almost always the highest attendance. I generally go to day 1 at the Gabba and a lot of people take the day off work to go.

Having day 1 on a Sat night is probabaly aimed at maximum attendance as crowds are dwindling atm and the pink ball was developed to get people to turn up at test matches after work, like ODIs.

Should have started it on a Friday.

Also it will be interesting to see the turnout to this weeks Brissy test as it is school holidays in QLD.

They have put it back to November next year, but the Ashes gets a good crowd any time.
