the pitch will still be a road tomorrow so I think there is only one possible result

Time they allowed an extra day if one captain hit the big red button on the morning of day 5 before a ball is bowled. Some added spice there IMO.

good idea but logistically very hard

extra day of staffing and broadcast rights would be an issue with ch 9 no doubt

Well, lets see. This test was doomed for a draw on day one, fate sealed on day two. We got some play and a decent test match started to evolve but that is now restricted by time. I am sure 9 would be more than happy to get a result, especially if it meant the possibility of a result due to inclement weather. It could an extra aspect to test match cricket in circumstances like the current MCG match. If both teams knew that a 6th day was possible if a captain of either team had the ability to 'do day 6' before play on day 5 then interest would be kept on the game, even before day 5. It's all about money as well us keeping us interested as viewers.

Take this match as an example. If one captain had the balls to say 'lets go to day 6' tomorrow morning then this match would come to life as opposed to a withering, painful draw.

Theres likely some scheduling reasons why they would all oppose a random 6 day game here and there

More than likely. But you never know. Send Pakistan in with a chance to create a bit of a miracle and you kind of take that pitch out of it a little bit. Batsmen looking to score fast are always vulnerable.

It's pretty irrelevant anyway, no way any modern skipper makes that call IMO and even if Smith did I think Misbah would bat for the draw anyway. Captains these days seem to want to get into a position to not lose a test before they go for the win. I can see Steve Waugh doing it though

Some commentators are already whinging 5 days too long.

Tubby taylor wants 4 day test ffs. If rain washes away a days play you may as well right it off. Impossible to get a result.

In terms of this game if there is one team that could lose the unloseable is pakistan.

They are so unpredictable they almost pull of an impossible win in brisbane and could get rolled for 80 tomorrow.

I still remember that test at the scg few years back when hussey and siddle won the test from an impossible position we were like 8 wickets down with a 30 run lead and managed to win.

This would be ballsy but if both teams are intent on winning, this is the only thing for it...

Gentlemans agreement by the captains at the start of play that we declare before play resumes, pakis agree to declare after half the minimum number of overs to be bowled and then we try and chase them down.

Come on Smithy, grow a pair!!!

I would say teams would be leery of even suggesting this sort of thing in the post Hansie Cronje/Saleem Malik era

Haha. Good point. It's a shame really.

Although if they were to publicise the agreement I don't think anyone would think twice and I reckon both captains would be congratulated

This test was destroyed by the weather, (and shit drop in pitches caused by the AFL, but dont start me on that).

Sydney should be a great test, if it is a traditional sydney wicket. Pakistan play spin well and have a very good leg spinner. We don't play spin well and Lyon is terribly out of form.

Maddinson will be dropped for an all rounder (probably a spinning all rounder in Maxwell or Head)

What's on 9 on (day 6)? Repeats of RBT?
Hehehe true

Tho i was talking about player scheduling ... they would have 1 dayers they need to travel for .... not saying its impossible but their players association would probably have an issue
