I remember about 15 years ago the Bulldogs were going to build a new home ground at Liverpool. it was to seat about 25-30k fans.. Great idea would have been much better ground than ANZ stadium..West tigers would have used the ground aswell.. Great idea we should revisit this idea.

The dragons have been let down by their own club, they are to nomadic and have no home and the fans I believe feel alienated.

Tribalism and a feeling of belonging is the most important thing to a sports fan and I believe st George are losing that.

Lets give it up now folks because that is disgusting. Public holiday, partial daylight game, big clubs in contention, rivalry match, annual fixture, 35k+ members. What more is needed for a decent crowd?

Same fixture last year got 27,291. If that's not a sign that the game is in trouble in Sydney then nothing is. Greenburg needs to urgently address crowds as it is destroying the games image and giving the knockers ammunition to write crap. Never mind that it is a gold mine of revenue that nobody but the broncos has even come close to exploiting to the max

And yet while you claim the sky is falling, crowds are STILL up on last year.

The Origin period is what needs looking at, and the way it affects the club comp. Not "Sydney".

How are we lining up with 2014 though? As 2015 was pretty bad.

Id say it was a dogs home game last year, so that automatically gets you 5-6 k members more...

Plus the fact that dragons absolutely suck atm

Pretty much this. Only full-season Dogs members had access today, anyone with minor membership (3/6 game etc) would have to purchase a ticket.

As a Dragons fan, I do feel let down. Kogarah is my closest home ground. Round 9 was the first chance this season I had to attend a home game, and it was Canberra on a Thursday night.

The traditional rivals Bulldogs,Souths, and the Roosters we play home games at their home grounds. The club said they needed to play home games away from Kogarah and Wollongong so the can make money.

The management has a lot to answer for.

Down a bit on 2014, 16,021 after 106 games this season; at a similar point (104 games) two years ago it was 16,538.

Still a massive improvement on last year which was 15,379 after 103 games.

The management would have a lot more to answer for if they played those games at smaller grounds and lost money each matchday.

Suburban grounds, for all their love and history, are generally a financial drain on clubs when trying to hold an event. They cost more than the income ticket sales generate.

have a look a the remaining fixtures timmah, there is a very strong possibility of crowds finishing behind last year which would be below 15k average

If Saints are going to persist with playing in large stadia, we need to commit to ONE.

Needs to be 4/4/4 not 4/4/2/1/1

I recall early in the season the Sharks had a sell out at home(suburban ground) and made $200,000. So don't try and tell me suburban grounds can't make money..The Sharks are killing it this year playing all home games at suburban ground. Timmah

Yes sharks are in a pretty unique position with their ground and I understand start making money if the crowd is over 11k or thereabouts.

Do epl clubs with small capacities ( for a comp that big ) play away from their fan base ?

No the AFL way will not work for any other code but them due to the fact the majority of Melbourne clubs are close to the MCG or Ethiad and there superior public transport system.

Only big games should be at ANZ and I'm happy enough for souths and bulldogs to stay there to make the stadium viable.

The merged teams need to reclaim their identity being to nomadic will not help in the long term.

+1.

I won't go to ANZ at all. Shit hole of a ground. Especially when we are playing the dogs at their ground.

It would take a pretty catastrophic drop for us to finish behind last year. The race for the eight looks pretty tight which should keep interest floating.

They're one example. It's well publicised most clubs lose money by playing at grounds like Leichhardt, Campbelltown, Kogarah etc.

The Sharks also own their ground - a luxury that other clubs simply do not have.

Once the new stadiums are built crowds will rise min 20 percent in the first season for those clubs who play in those venues.
