Will be interesting to see if Thursday night crowds are as bad as Monday nights. Is it just this season we have both?

Correct - no more MNF from 2017.

That said, Easter Monday and Queen's Birthday, plus every cycle when Anzac Day falls on Monday, will still feature Monday arvo footy, from what I understand.

ok cheers. The NRL are already using the two weeknight games as a reason for poor attendances so no doubt the modest increase next year by not having Monday nights will be lauded as a huge success of the NRL's fan engagement strategy lol.

It will be terrible.

The 7pm kick off Friday night is already affecting the crowd. Along with crap weather the last three days.

Just last week weren't we seeing "tickets fly off the shelf" for Friday's game?

Now it's affecting the crowd because it's earlier?

Make up your minds.

is it really muted to be a 6pm KO on a Friday next season? Who do they think is going to go? If so forget the gain from not playing Mondays, this will kill crowds even more than a Monday night.

I'd be amazed if Friday 6pm does better than Monday.

Maybe with some great use of timezones it will be passable (aka Warriors slot).

I know you love to quickly pounce, however, it's fairly simple.

Tickets were flying off the shelf during the first 8 or so days of all home games being on sale. A mixture of rainy days and an early kickoff awareness has seen demand fall.

So what the warriors play every home game Friday 8pm? Hardly fair. I still cannot fathom how fox and the NRL have come up with. And trying to sell it as fan friendly with the rest of it is just insulting to the fans.

On average by the time everything is done on a Friday I am sitting down to watch tv at 7.30pm and I suspect many others wont even catch this game on tv. What a farce

Pretty sure the original bloke was asking about next years 5pm twilight friday game, nothing to do with this years slightly early games.

Wonder how sky NZ will feel about that and if it will add or detract from the sky deal. Is that why it hasn't been signed yet I wonder?

Lol, early kick off awareness? It's been scheduled for this time for months.

Yep. It's going to be absolutely shit.

The only difference between a 6pm Friday game and the Monday night game is less time to get to it from work.

They talk about this year being compromised because there's two games on weeknights. Last I checked, Friday was still a week night. We're still going to have 3 games on weeknights. One of them will be next to impossible to get to for fans. I'm still shaking my head at the decision.

Friday games have the advantage of no work the following day though. So while it's a weekday, it's better than a Monday for going out. But getting to a 6pm game in after work will be a bit of a mission and pretty much impossible for those finishing at 5pm.

7pm in Queensland should be fine though during daylight savings. Likewise with 8pm in New Zealand. But relying on timezones to make the slot work is shit. Especially when there's still going to be a bunch of games that will actually be 6pm kickoff and almost certainly destined for shit crowds.

That timeslot will be awesome for a night in with the footy. Get home. Throw the footy on and not go out. But that could even have a negative effect on the crowd for the other game. Much easier to stay in with 2 live games of football.

Are you a Brisbane fan? Most casual fans are so used to the 7:40pm kick off that when the Broncos posted and "early kick off" reminder on facebook it went semi viral and people were like "thats shit".

Most would just scan the date, oh a Friday, the norm.

They aren't even trying to sell it as fan friendly, they are calling it the "pub game". In other words their only concern is TV viewers at the pub.

As everyone said it is a horrific timeslot. Of course the Warriors would make sense but that only fixes half of the 6PM slots at best. Friday is probably the one night where 8PM starts is palpable to the majority of the population. You get a chance to go out for dinner/drinks after work and most people don't work the next day.

Just have 2 8PM Friday games, one in NSW and one elsewhere and be done with it. air one on 9, the other on Gem and get over the fact that ratings will see a bit of a fall.

5pm, QLD is an hour behind, not an hour in front
