Bourbon Bec and the other News Ltd clowns made the same error about QLD DST when they were shilling for the game before it was agreed to by Grant...

Pretty sure the original bloke was asking about next years 5pm twilight friday game, nothing to do with this years slightly early games.
There was a direct reference to tomorrow's 7:05pm kickoff...

Are you a Brisbane fan? Most casual fans are so used to the 7:40pm kick off that when the Broncos posted and "early kick off" reminder on facebook it went semi viral and people were like "thats shit".

Most would just scan the date, oh a Friday, the norm.

So it's the NRL's fault Queenslanders can't read? :D

Friday games have the advantage of no work the following day though. So while it's a weekday, it's better than a Monday for going out. But getting to a 6pm game in after work will be a bit of a mission and pretty much impossible for those finishing at 5pm.

7pm in Queensland should be fine though during daylight savings. Likewise with 8pm in New Zealand. But relying on timezones to make the slot work is shit. Especially when there's still going to be a bunch of games that will actually be 6pm kickoff and almost certainly destined for shit crowds.

That timeslot will be awesome for a night in with the footy. Get home. Throw the footy on and not go out. But that could even have a negative effect on the crowd for the other game. Much easier to stay in with 2 live games of football.

This. Earlier game on a non-work night is actually a fairly decent concept as it means you can go out and do whatever afterwards. Depending on which markets it's in and how often it's played (surely not each of the 24 rounds) I think it's not a bad idea.

Ummm, this is what was asked

I took that as RCB was asking about the 2017 and onwards 5pm/6pm kickoff????

My post was directly after SLRBRONCOS referring to his point about tomorrow night's game.

the 6pm slot was pre fox showing all games live wasn't it ? surely they'll can that idea and go with a sunday 6:30 or something. (or potentially 2 Sunday arvo games if the warriors are at home )

6pm on any week night is destined to end in <10k crowds 90% of the time

Just plain dumb by the NRL. Either they needed to have anticipated it and expanded the comp and put teams where this extra Frday live timeslot would have worked or told TV to get fcked and refused to screw the fans. TV would have paid just as much without it.

I fail to even see it pulling big ratings numbers either.

Back on the 6pm Friday concept..
How do people feel it would go at regional venues? Traffic makes it pretty much impossible in Sydney/Melborune/Brisbane, but would the likes of Canberra, Townsville and Newcastle work out?
Obviously it would still negatively effect things, just maybe less so.

Speaking for Newcastle, we have people drive from all around the Hunter to come to games. I don't think traffic is as much the issue as it just being a Thursday night. I don't think any of those 3 teams have a Thursday game anyway.

Crowd looks decent enough for Thursday. This will be the new norm for crowds.

Things aren't going to change anytime soon. Thursday and monday this year then the BS thursday then fri 6pm next year.

How could they even quantify the success of a 6pm game. The ratings and crowds will bomb so unless they walk around counting heads at the pubs across the land then there is no way to know

Cannot get my head around it. Worst idea ever
