2016 Crowd Watch

Growing crowds just does not appear to be on the radar for the NRL.

Whether it is because they do not care or lack the skill to do so is yet to be determined. Most likely a combination of both.

I find it most instructive that crowds have been trending down since the Commission took over.

It was nothing like WSW's - WSW's is an in-game part of a chanting schedule. The Raiders were doing it for a world record type thing and actually took it from Iceland.

But keep pumping your little soccer team.

That's a bit rich coming from a Mariners fan.

I know it's not a new thing but this really puts into perspective how much of an impact origin has on the NRL. In general it shows a waning of interest as the season progresses. I'm not sure what the solution is but it's something the NRL needs to work on.

Well, we have the stand alone weekend for game 2 now. Let's see how that little experiment goes.

I think all the media hype and focus on Origin is as big an issue as the star players being missing from the games during origin, it feels like club football has become an after thought during that period.

I don't understand why they can't condense the Origin period. Even if they keep it Wednesday, bring it in to a tighter timeframe. Currently it ruins about 9 rounds of footy.

There's far too much product. I know on here people watch everything all the time BUT for 99.9999% of the population they have other things they want and need to do.

So the season starts. WOOT. Haven't seen a game in 5 months. Let's go. Say that lasts for 5 weeks. For the clubs who don't start well there is a significant fall off as people think, we're trash, I'm not going to bother. For the other sides there is a fall off as people know there are another 21 NRL games before finals so they can pick and choose their spots + there is origin to scratch their RL itch and maybe a test match. So there are 25 games after the first 5 weeks before the finals.

25 games is already probably too many. It's easy to check out for a long long long stretch and still not miss too much of consequence. It would be easy to just forget NRL from the start of April to the middle of August and still have plenty of NRL in your life.

Scheduling has gotten worse.
Stadium choices have gotten worse.
Refereeing has gotten worse.
The game's rules have gotten worse.

Direct consequence of the games leaders' actions.

Times we play games has got worse. I don't think the game it self has got worse. I would say it is better than last year.

Every year we complain about refs , been happening sincce the 80s. Nothing changes there.

It's not the refs as in the actual people, it's the way the NRL and Archer has them referee the game.
The quality of actual play has been very entertaining, for me at least. But every game (and days in between games) is littered with frustrations caused by the NRL.
Far more damaging to crowds than any supposed "disrepute" by drunk footballers.

Looked closer to 12 or 13k to me but either way it's an awful crowd.
