2016 Crowd Watch

Worked on my race car watching NRL on my garage tv and drinking beer. Good day in the west.

Your pmt must be at an all time high after that game, went through same thing last night watching my team throw the game away lol.

Edited for accuracy:

I sat in
My EMPTY home stadium
In my SHTHOLE home town
Watching my team in the NRL LOSE

Lol

I actually thought it was an ok effort by the raiders. Its gonna be babysteps to get the town back into the raiders anyway and the city was completely empty today. 11k on easter saturday against the titans aint too shabby tbh.

Do people expect the crowds to just magically come back lol. Its going to take time and for the raiders to actually be successful

The Raiders seem to get a lot of home games on long weekends, which always puts a dent in the crowd. Was a stunning day here in Canberra so plenty of incentive to get to the game. That said, 11,000 on a long weekend vs Titans isn't bad.

Also - Teams absolutely shouldn't rely on away support but it dows make a difference. Add at least 2-3,000 to today's crowd for any of the big Sydney teams.

12,291 at SFS. About 40 Manly supporters.
Glorious weather in Sydney today.

The solution to this problem as I see it is to force Manly to play more games at the SFS so the facilities are upgraded for the Roosters.

Is an upgrade really going to draw more fans to that venue? It already has the best viewing angles of the sydney stadia as a partially effective roof yet sees poor crowds in every code aside from the event matches like anzac day.

Sydneys problem is more geographic, demographic and apathy than anything.

There were actually about a thousand Manly fans there.

I'm just on my way home from the game and to be fair I reckon there was about 3000 manly fans. I was actually surprised at the the 12k crowd given the clusterf**k with swans and mini Easter show and some sort of concert. Ridiculous planning. Not sure who to blame. Morons.

So now long weekends are an excuse for poor crowds? Wow this thread comes up with some corkers.

I would have thought so too but it is true for Canberra. Nearly all the people i know who attend games missed the most recent long weekend games cause they were out of town. Just the way the place works on long weekends.

It shouldn't be an excuse. The Raiders have enough latent support here to get much better attendances on a regular basis and make up for a shortfall in people who skip town. But a lot of that latent fanbase isn't engaged

I swear we hear a new reason every week for Canberra. Hot, cold, rainy, slightly breeze, holiday-y, parliaments in session, monsters tricks are in town, day ending with y.
Didn't think today's crowd needed reasons, pretty much Canbeera par and against the leagues worst draw card.

Cold and public holidays are decent ones. Canberra stadium can be genuinely unpleasant in winter and canberra was dead today.

Anyways the raiders have a lot of work to do with engaging with the local community. They have been mediocre for decades and thr playsrs have been nightmares off the field. That said i reckon 11k was alright

It is entirely the responsibility of the NRL to attract people of all kinds to the game. The fact they are not capable of this is one issue. The notion that NRL clubs are incapable of negotiating stadium deals that deal with this issue is another.

You're just arguing for the sake of arguing. The game was sold out, not my fault if you're too mentally deficient to realise.

If all you want to do is bitch then fine, but don't dare try and throw your supposed credentials around. That's not what a true Rugby League fan would do.

400,000 people in the area. Seriously how many of them left for the weekend and how many of them were RL fans? For Raiders 11-12k is normal so it doesn't look like the time of year was a particularly big factor.

Well the swans game was originally pencilled in for ANZ stadium but the swans cancellled the last year of that contract and moved all of their games back to the scg.

This only happened in the last month or so aswell.

Afl does not appear to suffer from apathy plus there are many thousands of away fans who travel interstate especially from the big melbourne clubs. Would not be far fetched to say there could.have been 10k collingwood fans there laat night. But still a very good crowd compared to what we got.
