Broncos tickets went on sale today to all other games.

Warriors pax would be 30,000+.
Cowboys pax would be nudging 37,000, selling level 7 already. Will surely end up a technical sell out.

I hope everyone's depressing predictions mean we get a pleasantly surprising high attendance opening round.

Went to a Anaheim Ducks game last night.

$12 US for a beer. Can only imagine the reaction of the punters back home at having to pay that sort of price. I don't know how the locals afford it tbh.

I've never quite understood why NHL tickets (face value) and concessions are so expensive when at the end of the day theyre a niche sport outside of Canada and the Northeast.
Go to an Angels game and you can get a good beer for close to half that price.

No way the Raiders will get 14K to a 3pm.Saturday game v Penrith.
10K would be a good result.
Same for the Titans ...10k.
There's no reason Townsville shouldn't be at capacity except poor weather.

All based on fine weather.

Para v Broncos.. 18500
Manly v Bulldogs 16500
Raiders v Penrith 10500
Tigers v Warriors 12500
Cowboys v Sharks 25000
Roosters v South's 30000
Titans v Newc 10500
Storm v Dragons 14500

depending on weather the raiders should get a decent crowd, hopes are higher this year then they have been for a while. Penrith don't tend to draw that well in canberra but I still wouldn't be surprised to see 12000+ if nice weather.

Round 1

Roosters v souths 24k

100+ year history, and one of the predictions is 24k. All that time to build a rivalry and get less than 30k. Yet the Sydney Derby get 40k at Allinaz no problem yet a 100+ year history struggle to get 30k.

'Heartland' lack of passion on display once again, to think Sydney/WSW fans are more passionate than Souths/Roosters fans in a short amount of time. Round 1, Rivalry game and Sunday afternoon (the proclaimed prefer time-slot for RL fans), no excuses but cue excuses.

I agree moatly and i hope i am wrong but one thing not in the games favor is #35 GA tickets. Sadly i think we will see the average attendance decreaze again. Nothing has been done about ticket prices and as ffar as i can see its the biggest problem

Yawn.

Yeah and Sydney United vs Sydney Olympic have had 60 years to form a rivalry. What crowd will they get this year? 189?

Wanderers vs SFC. Amazing atmosphere. 40,000 fans. Maybe 100,000 watching on tv. Meanwhile more total people will watch a Holden Cup game on a Saturday at lunch.

Soccer rulz, league sux, yeah man.

OK, you got us. Sydney doesn't really like Rugby League. In fact it's not a very popular sport. Soccer, AFL and Union are all better and will soon kill Rugby League like it's supposed to have the last.... 100+ years.

All I want to see from the 'heartland' is actual heartland worthy crowds instead of the empty seats and endless excuses, if they all got better crowds all the clubs would be more viable and perhaps the code can move forward for once instead of being forever stagnate.

Clubs these days are having more money than ever yet the crowds haven't improved. How much longer does the NRL have to wait for the clubs to get it together, it's being decades too long to think the other codes have the vision and courage to expand. It's always being about consolidation year after year and no long-term plan for expanding the game for once.

The increasing coverage of the game on TV will have an effect on crowds.

Even FTA is showing 3 live games a week this season when two years ago there was one.

I'm expecting a poor result for crowds this year with games on Thursday and Monday nights.

Getting excuses in early?

Probably - but it's the NRL and I assume the clubs pushing the more casual fans to watch the game on TV in return for more $$$.

They can't have it both ways..

Sydney Derby does get 40k, you're right.

And 120k odd watching on TV.

Meanwhile, Roosters v Souths only gets 20-30k... but has 500K+ watching in most instances.

I know this is crowd watch but crowds aren't the only marker of modern popularity.

Which shows fans are interested, just not enough to get off the couch and go and cheer their club on. Thankfully regional NSW is well populated and RL mad so makes up for shortfalls in the city. Struggling to know what the NRL is going to do to make fans actually interested enough to get out and watch a game live and it would seem so are they give the lack of any real initiatives for last couple of years despite a stated crowd growth KPI that they are looking to fail miserably in. Of that 400-500k watching on tV most will be neutrals which is reflective of Sydney's over saturation of clubs per number of fans meaning the two soccer clubs are sharing all the fans between two as opposed to Sydney sharing a lot more fans but between nine.

The NRL is doing plenty to make more fans interested enough to get out and watch games- for instance they have doubled the number of games played on weeknights this season with school/ work the next day, and the move to Friday 6pm next year should prove a winner with fans getting permission from their bosses to knock off from work early to attend the game.

As I have said before, showing more games live on FTA and making the coverage on Pay TV more attractive and encourage more people to subscribe is not going to result in increased numbers going to games - not just in Sydney but anywhere.

I don't think we will be hearing much of the NRL average crowd target of 20k in the next couple of years.

Of course, the TV ratings will be increased this year so all the spin will be about that.

Lets get one thing straight.

The A=league derby is a great event. They get 1-2 (depending on the season) 40k sellouts. It is their premium Sydney event.

Our premium Sydney events are ANZAC Day (usually 35-40k), Good Friday (40-50k), Easter Monday (debateable, 35-50k), Origin, (70-80k) and Grand Final (80k).

The rest of the time, both sports get 9 to 15k on average, albiet there are 9 Sydney league teams to soccer's 2. They are not setting the world on fire vs Wellington, Adelaide, Perth et al. Both sports have a long way to go, but comparing their premium event to our clb rounds would be like comparing ANZAC Day to one of their standard club games.

No mate, just a regular schooner sized plastic cup.

Food was just as bad, $10 for a hotdog. And not a hotdog size we're used to, the tiny yank sized ones. I love hockey and will go to it as much as i can in my last 4 weeks overt here but I honestly dont know how the locals can afford it. NFL game tickets are 4x as expensive but food is the same price.

The average person in Australia has it pretty good when it comes to attending sport. Sure it's a big outlay for a family but still possible as a treat. America has such a low minimum wage that many people could not even dream of going to one game a lifetime in the larger cities

That is true
but the secondary ticket market is really interesting in America. you can pick up tickets to football quite cheaply close to the event for the nosebleed sections.

sites like dealscore etc. not stubhub they are expensive
