For a game full of bravery and courage on the field we have the weakest ball less leadership of any sport in the world. Sadly it's nothing new and why RL, despite being an incredible sport on the field, is still a tiny sport around the world. How the blokes in 1895 had the balls to break away from union I don't know, seems the last time we had leadership with kouhonos!

They should've had $10 tickets for either end of the ground, $5 kids.

Even neutrals might've turned up for a look for that.

Just as much chance of that as getting (non-diehard) Penrith fans to travel all that way.

Again if they had any strategy they would have played it at ANZ, offered $15 and $25 for any NRL club member and put on an afternoon of fun and entratainment around the precinct with a goal of 50-60k.If the NRL can't get 50k RL fans to a finals game in the games heartland city something is badly wrong.

If you accept Sydney clubs have less than 15k committed fans each then you realise you have to work hard to get neutrals to the game to fill the place.

Sydney first week finals should be played at ANZ and it should be free entry for season ticket holders of any NSW team and $10 entry for anyone else.

Well if they ever needed motivation to do something .. arlc commissioners just need to listen to the abc interview the afl chairman did yesterday..

He openly admitted for the first time ever that they plan to be the number 1 code in nsw and will happily destroy rl to make it happen

Whether it be dodgy media deals to control the message .. or $100m + a year in marketing to western sydney .. whatever it takes to be number 1

When will nrl wake up.. and try to fight back ?
Would love to hear some on the commission or Todd comment on this, but they're too busy worrying about upsetting News Ltd and a few Sydney clubs demands to care about anything else

Right stadium right game. Centralised stadiums will mean more and more the notion of home is meaningless.

Thats still too expensive for families because the crowd culture needs what I would refer to as electro shock treatment.
If people hear tickets are $25.00 it will be in one ear and out the other. If they hear "free to all season ticket holders of any team" the ears will prick, hairs on peoples backs will stand up and they will be like "did I just hear that right".

I'm hoping they do a deal for our semi there, to get it a sellout.

Playing an out of sydney team, if we get 40k, that'll be amazing.

However, get he cheap seats happening & sell it out.

Not if you earned it but give it away.

Don't you see that this very argument does not support this centralised stadium policy, for all.

Agree, memberships could go up eg.$5 and that portion goes to the NRL as compensation for finals revenue. The NRL wins because not every Sydney team will make finals, yet the NRL will still receive the $5 from their annual membership for finals. It would encourage more fans to sign up as members & reward them with a genuine incentive. Season crowds would also likely increase.

Thats what I think as well. Good idea re the $5.00 'tax'.
In addition, the Sydney clubs could have an agreement between themselves that all the players (including lower grade SG ball and Harold Matthews and club legends where possible) from the clubs who don't make the finals attend the Sydney ANZ final (where they should all be) games and sit in a section where the fans can come and hang out with them and sign autographs and such. The clubs that don't make the finals then also advertise their players attendance to the membership base and that the game is free entry - give some free sh*t away etc.
Each club would have a couple of thousand hard core fans who would love the idea of watching a neutral game for free with their hero's.

Unfortunately, I can't see it happening, it would involve the clubs & NRL working together...

I understand both teams are based on the west of Sydney, but for a finals game, 22k between two Sydney teams on a perfect Sunday afternoon is very disappointing.

Given that all Sydney finals have to be held at either ANZ or Allianz Stadium and ANZ Stadium is closer to Penrith than Allianz, the question is how many people would've turned out had the game been played at ANZ Stadium?

Well, 3 of the remaining 4 finals before the Grand Final should get full-houses:

Nth QLD vs Brisbane (27k)
Canberra vs Penrith (25-26k)

and the Melbourne PF.

Cronulla PF at Allianz vs Nth QLD or Brisbane is going to be very interesting, given its on a Friday night. Based on past PF's at Allianz with a Sydney vs non-Sydney team, 30k is going to be the pass mark.

$1.05 billion in 2013 wasn't big $'s? The nrl's overall revenue has trebled in a decade. The game isn't ready to expand, it would be a disaster with the current management and inability to grow the game. I'd rather wait until we have a arlc and CEO with some ability.

And the players wages have more than doubled FFS.As we'll as club football management. You appear not to have heard about CPIs.
We actually lost money yr ending 2012 under Gallop.
Not when you have 3 clubs in dire financial strife and look like going under Tigers/Knights/Titans.Or when you need to throw a few mill Dragons way to assist.Nor when you had zero funds in the bank and needed some for a future fund,so you could contribute to infrastructure such as Townsville,SFS etc.
Not when you have a game's admin paying overs for some within their ranks. The H/O admin now from 2016 saves over $5m pa in these salaries.
Mate have a look at what happened over the weekend, with the fumblers getting 60,000 .Now if the NRL was to relocate Sydney teams, spend millions on relocation ,and not assist clubs which are either to be sold (2) and 1 under new management, you would be inviting fans to leave the code ,some go to fumble ball and the game here would weaken. The AFL would be rubbing their hands with glee.
" Current disaster" .The AFL made a complete ballsup of ASADA,10 of their clubs are losing money with all the income they receive, the Lions owe $13m and Suns are losing fans faster than a GC rip(both expansion clubs) .Their 3 strikes drug policy is/was a farce. Many of their Melbourne clubs are up in arms of the deals the expansion clubs are getting. So don't pretend the NRL are the only code that has its problems at the top.

The ARLC got rid of the F&L rights in the TV deal which hamstrung the code, and control the 2018 scheduling.
Female rl is being introduce at under 17 comp in Sydney.

Yes there are ballsups with the bunker and refereeing consistency, that can and must be fixed. And Greenberg and others needs to get off their a*ses to sort it out.

Rugby league has spent decades relying on poker machine money and former well meaning players who knew little about pro administration. That has changed with clubs over the past 3 years with an ARLC in place.

You are right, ATM we are not ready to expand and only when all current clubs are set.Wasting money like we did in the past,is not part of the deal now.
