I couldn't tell you what they sold. If I could, then I would be telling you a brand to avoid. Not all publicity is good publicity

Except for the closest zoom on the tv, you can't actually read the words coco joy. Shit logo! They'd get more exposure just having the text.

What's with the lacing or 'pretend' lacing?

I agree with this.
I can't tell you the number of times over the years where I've seen an irritating ad on tv, one of those ones that gets a fair bit of air time for a few weeks or so, and I've intentionally avoided that company / product because of it.

The yearly one I can name is that Ikea ad. "Start the car".
I don't care if I need a table right there and then and theirs is the best price by a country mile, I will not go there during that sale ... all thanks to that ad.
I think there was another one a couple of years ago for $1 large sized frozen Cokes or sundaes or something like that from either HJ's or Maccas. The tv / radio ads annoyed me, so I brushed 'em.

In regards to NRL jerseys, I know the companies pay the money to be noticed. I know they don't actually care how it makes the jerseys look (so long as people see their logo / name). I know companies utilise colours that make them stand out, and therefore don't always suit the colours of the teams' jerseys they are on (which, see the point above, makes them stand out and be noticeable even more).

However.

Using this CoCoJoy mob and Manly as an example, on the dark maroon background that is the Manly jersey, the simple white writing of CoCoJoy will stand out regardless, will look a hell of a lot better than the lime green logo does now, and will integrate so much better. Their name will be the one people get to know, and people will see their lime green logo on the advertising signs at Brooky, will be on the Manly website / social media and still know it's them.

Another example is the NSW Origin jersey (green seems to be getting a bit of a kick in the guts from me tonight, but these are just a couple of the more obvious examples for me).
Don't get me started on the VB logos! I will instead focus on the green and white NIB logos on the sleeves. The NSW jersey does not look good with big patches of green on it (sleeves + the front and back VB logos). I think the NIB sleeve sponsorship logos would look SO much better as being just the white NIB lettering. No green squares behind them. As mentioned before, I know companies are using colours to get people associating with them more and more these days, but there are ways around it.
Probably 15 years ago or so while NBN was still the Newcastle sleeve sponsor, NIB had a logo on the Knights shorts. The Knights shorts are blue. The NIB logo was just white text on the blue shorts. Looked great.
IF they absolutely insist that green must be a part of their NSW Origin jersey advertising, they could have the white NIB lettering with a thinnish green outline.

I know it's all just wishful thinking on my part (and many of us too!), but it's nice to dream..!

Thing is though Nuke - you're talking about their brand. Whether you're talking negatively or positively is largely irrelevant - you're putting their brand name in the eyes of other people and spreading exposure. People who would never have had that brand in their mind if not for your referencing. You're promoting recall of a brand - even if it's negative - and increasing the likelihood it'll be recognised.

As for colours on the jersey - if the brand guidelines for your company state you can use a white inverted version of the logo, then fine (and as a fellow 'jersey nerd', I prefer it myself!)

If not, and the club you're sponsoring with agrees to it, then that's that. Brand guidelines and logo usage are more of a thing now than ever and very few cpmpanies will ever cave to what they perceive as lesser exposure of their brand. In CocoJoy's case, I'm gonna guess the bright green circle is an instantly recognisable part of their brand among their consumers and they've probably done research to that effect.

While I wish it was as simple as "it looks shit on a jersey", trust me, but I think we need to get used to obscure, horrible sponsor logos.

People whinge, can say it looks crap, and people can write a novel ^^^ about it, but in the end clubs get bulk cash and the company gets mad exposure. Do you think the company wants some white text at the bottom of a clubs jersey?....
The roosters obviously nailed it somehow, as well as dragons and knights to an extent. And some clubs it ruins the jersey. But I know I see a big fat black Fujitsu box before I see a white Steggles logo...

Manly must have been desparate to take the money from Coco Joy. White lettering in the Coco Joy style without an oval/circle would've made a huge difference. The Manly logo this year is nice and it's hardly notable with the abomination of a logo they have on their jersey

I couldn't even name 10 of the clubs major sponsors this year regardless if it's a big arse box or an intragated logo

Don't think I've seen any but I imagine Saints, Roosters, Storm and Warriors will all have some sort of ANZAC logo, slouch hat or RSL logo on their kit somewhere.
