Actually it's a massive issue like jersey numbers that greentard will put all of his effort into. f**k expansion and growth and promoting the sport. Jersey numbers need a subcommittee and a few consultants to spend 12 months working on a solution. Still no guarantee it will be sorted.

That's the thing. It doesn't need consultants and 12months and the CEO.

It is part of somebody's job already.

- all jersey designs must be approved by NRL - this is the checkpoint where the design on the back+ the contrast with numbers should be quality controlled. Also the point where someone should ensure that every team as a suitable alternate to wear vs the home jersey of every other team
- all jersey plans must be submitted for each game and approved - this is the checkpoint when team clashes should be sorted out

It's not hard.

The CEO of maccas doesn't need to worry whether there are enough straws in the straw dispenser. But it's an easy job and someone is responsible. Same deal with jerseys

To be fair it's done poorly in most codes. Sometimes two kits get on the field and clash horribly, yet on other occasions clubs are asked to wear kits they don't need to due to some sort of perceived clash.

Which jersey each club is wearing on a week to week basis seems to be a lot more of a lottery this season too.

The worst was 2005 when the Sharks wore white numbers on their white away jersey. Could not make them out from a distance, and can still recall Vautin giving them a spray about it on the Sunday Footy Show the next day. They only lasted one game before reverting to black numbers.

Youtube link of it in action. Updated white jersey with black numbers at 5:00 mark:

AFL has some of the worst clashes I have ever seen in sport.

Honestly I wish they would stop with the gimmick/occasion jerseys. There are that many of them it has just become meaningless, so just stick to home, away and a possible 3rd alternative every few years if necessary

Storm have gold numbers tonight.

I like that. Their jerseys have become navy & purple and ditched yellow -one of their club colours from the 1998 original jersey.

Having yellow as the number is a good way of keeping it in their jersey and making easy to see numbers for the crowd as well.

I attended this disaster:

manny-muscat-oliver-bozanic-wellington-phoenix-v-melbourne-victory-a-league-05122015_1qb3wshbgkgd11m1oqifq8afg5.jpg

The photo doesn't do justice to just how bad the clash was.

I don't know who the other team is based on that photo but surely the Phoenix would've worn their normal yellow and black strip.

Phoenix v Victory. Phoenix had a special one-off kit.

If I remember correctly Victory were asked by the FFA to wear their home kit and they deliberately only traveled with their away kit.

Typical Victorians.

The old VFL-heritage clubs have an abundance of dark blue, navy blue, black and white in their strips - it causes a lot of bad match-ups

Horizontal blue stripes v Vertical black stripes confuse you?

It can do, yes

Where the AFL makes up some points is they force the teams to wear different coloured shorts. Dark v Light. But that match up above can be confusing

With Norths v Collingwood one club will wear a "reverse" strip which is more white than normal
In other words, rather than being black with white stripes it will be white with black strips for example

Here Collingwood is wearing Black with White Stripes, whereas Norths are wearing white with blue stripes
That way the back of the shirt or side panelling is the opposite colour to the opposition

They enforce strict rules regarding this to reduce how on field clashes look (according to my South Australian mate)

I tweeted the club and asked if they could keep them full time...
