And to their credit, they do let any current or ex-servicepersons into the ANZAC Day game for free. That is many thousands of free tickets every year.

They definitely get credit for that, as do Easts when it's their go, and other clubs that offer free entry to current and ex-servicemen and women this weekend. And I know sometimes there will be a post game auction of game day jerseys with some of the proceeds going to the RSL or veterans charities. Still doesn't make me happy that they're turning a buck out of it by selling jerseys.

SGL I agree wholeheartedly with your point...there should be some kind of donation...but this is one instance where I'm not prepared to have s go at the club.

For 10 years we (as in the competition) have been slapped in the face with Women in League jerseys, indigenous jerseys, awareness jerseys and ANZAC jerseys. I think it would be conservative to estimate there have been 150-200 such jerseys. I can't recall a single one that donated a proportion of JERSEY sales to White Ribbon, or Close The Gap, or Brain Cancer, or Legscy. Sure they've collected gold coins and auctioned jerseys, but I can't recall one that gave profits to charity. And if I'm wrong, you could count them on one hand.

So I just feel blowing up at Saints this year, when 14 clubs profited off the 100 year anniversary last year staging 5 games, is a bit unfair

I don't know about now, but I think when we first introduced the Pink-V it was to raise money for the Joanne Mackay Foundation. The Women-In-League round didn't exist back then. The NRL took our idea and turned it into the WIL round after the Bulldogs were accused of gang-rape.

I wish we'd go back to our sky blue ANZAC jersey. I liked the history behind it plus I'd like to see all these kits go without sponsors on them like Penrith(?) did last year as mark of respect.

Normally I'd agree but we lost every game we played in that jersey

Oh f**k it - let's wear it every week. A whole season with one win

Why not?

It's why beer exists

Pretty sure Souths gave some profits to the commando welfare trust last season, although I'm sure they got a cut as well.

Ridiculous. Would've made better sense for the Titans to wear their home strip

Big Mals opinion on the Roos shirt

Mal Meninga is all about putting tradition back into the Kangaroos and he doesn't care if it comes at a price. As it stands the Kangaroos don't wear a sponsor on the their jumpers after previously having Holden as their main backer. Meninga isn't concerned in the slightest. "Yeah, we are a cleanskin jumper at the moment," he said. "And ...I don't mind that at all. I think the national jumper is something of significance and not having a sponsor is not a terrible thing at all. We are trying to re-establish the importance of this jumper."
And that's the discussion he had with Paul Gallen when they met up at the True Blues dinner. "He [Meninga] wants players to put the same emphasis if not more on the Test jumper compared to Origin," Gallen said.

Oman deal inked

Here is a sponsorship that all NRL clubs should be envious of. Dragons fan and businessman Michael Ibrahim has managed to secure the country of Oman as a backer for his sons team, Penshurst RSL, to the tune of $40,000. We know it's not huge bucks on the professional scale but it's a very big whack for a local team. Ibrahim explained in an email. "I have been based in the Middle East for the past 15 years, working on many projects with the royal families in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
"Throughout out my working relationship with delegates in the government at Oman. I explained the concept of rugby league in Australia, and showed them footage of our great game and they fell in love with it right away. I explained to them that I would love to have their great country to be as a sponsor and with no hesitation they jumped on board with my surprise with a cheque to help out our juniors.
"That brought me to think, with all due respect, why isn't the National Rugby League trying to target countries such as Oman, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar and other countries in that region that have unlimited access to funds and access to major sponsors to be targeted and be introduced to the game over there?
"It took a small businessman like myself to ask the question and I got the result. With the right management team at the NRL headquarters I really can't see why they cannot attract such sponsors as Emirates, Eithad, Air Oman, Qatar Air ... that's just to name a few. There is a very big Arabic community and others that use these airlines in the Sydney region and other cities on a daily basis."

Triple M were complaining (and rightly so) that the numbering on the Titans jersey was hard to read and Greenburg & co need to sort this out, numbering, jerseys, colour clashing

You'd think this stuff would be common sense. Then I remember it is the NRL we are talking about and the stupidity starts to become understandable

Actually it's a massive issue like jersey numbers that greentard will put all of his effort into. f**k expansion and growth and promoting the sport. Jersey numbers need a subcommittee and a few consultants to spend 12 months working on a solution. Still no guarantee it will be sorted.
