2016 Jerseys, Sponsorship, Logos Discussion

The way a brand presents itself in applications can also create the perception of quality. When you compare Jaycar's integration with the Dogs vs the WoW logo on Broncos jerseys a few years back, two similar retail outlets. Based purely on how they are seen on a footy jersey, which would be perceived to provide better service and a higher quality product? The one thing loud advertising does do is communicate cheapness or low cost, which may be the aim in certain applications.

You have to take into account how the likes of Media Monitor et al track brand recognition etc.

Given that the club's sponsorship portfolios tend to emphasise brand exposure value, you can trace the sponsor design back to what works best there.

We can all agree that the Manly stuff looks diabolical but it certainly makes an impression.

I am pretty fussy with my own teams jerseys, but this was pretty good I thought

Does anyone else find the use of camo really tacky bordering on offensive?
There are alot of other ways to pay respect without it.

Unless it said servicemen are a bunch of merkins I don't know what there is to get offended about. I'm an ex serviceman myself.

The camo just looks silly, in a way making a link between what players do on the field and what servicemen and women do in the armed forces. That's what I see.

I guess its a much simpler way of tracking performance but that approach seems to take a quantity over quality approach and doesn't necessarily address the intangibles I mentioned. Definitely out of my wheelhouse though so I'll your word for it.

Regardless of how the logo looks, Manly shouldn't be playing in a V jersey. We have enough teams running around in that cliché to warrant them going back to the hoops look. At the very least, the front wouldn't look so broken up.

Most of ANZAC jerseys have been awful but the Dragons have now set the bench mark. This keeps the Dragons in their traditional jersey but also has a nice subtle tribute to the ANZACs.

Looks great

It is very much about quantity over quality. It's about the dollar value the brand receives in a given period in all forms of media.

For example, the major sponsorship may cost $1 million, but they may end up with $2 million value in coverage which may represent better value than doing more traditional advertising at the same spend.

I think you should do a bit of research into it for your benefit as I think it may inform some of your design decisions based on if you are considering offering your services as a designer.

You obviously have a good eye for jersey design and I think there could be opportunities for you at ISC etc with a better overall understanding of the commercial realities re decision-making in the designs.

While I agree that there is no good reason to find it offensive, I think that people who do find it offensive see the players wearing cammo as comparing the game to actual combat.

it just annoys me when both teams wear cammo, as then all i can see is a ball whizzing around the field.. no idea who's got it or which direction the teams are running.

I've asked the question on the Dragons' FB page this afternoon (as a fan, I really like the design and would buy it if there's at the very least a big % of profits going that way), no reply as yet

I phoned them today to ask. None of the profits from jersey sales are donated.

Way too harsh. Nobody else has been donating money from ANZAC jerseys for the past 15 years, why suddenly Dragons this year?

I have never been a fan of anyone profiting off of something like ANZAC Day, and the fact it has been going on for 15+ years with these jerseys just makes it worse. I single out the Dragons because they're my team, but the same frustration exists across all clubs.
