Can we really gauge fans based on 9 Sydney teams against one cities clubs?

If you're gauging interest in the sports as a whole then yes, comparing the average attendance of all the clubs from each sport against each other and the population of the city and it'd give you an interesting number and a gauge of the popularity of each sport in the city, by it's self it's not enough of a gauge to determine which sport is more popular in the city, but still an interesting peace of data I'd say.

Doing it club by club however is ultimately pretty useless though as it's easy to manipulate the end result, for example comparing the two highest drawing clubs from each sport against each other would just be stupid because though the highest drawing club in sport A may out draw the highest drawing club in sport B by 50%, if you add the attendance of all the clubs in the city together sport B may out draw sport A, which would suggest that despite the fact that sport A has the biggest individual club in the city sport B is in fact the more popular of the two sports, of course this number alone wouldn't be enough to prove that sport B is indeed the more popular of the two but it'd still be a very useful piece of data in discovering which sport is truly the most popular of the two.

Maybe all the Cocaine drug busts in Sydney had an effect at ANZ but in saying that I realised the Kogarah game was well attended in a shit time slot.

So maybe it's just ANZ stadium that the people refuse to go to.

Other grounds in Sydney are well attended. So let's walk away from that ground.

Oh that's right clubs receive 100k to play there..

I remember I rang my club up and demanded they don't play anymore games at anz and they told me they don't make 1 cent when they have 10k or less crowd at their suburban ground so that's why we play at anz we receive $100k from state government and have no costs at all..

Parramatta will be laughing all the way to the bank and so will.Dogs,Souths, and to a lesser extent Dragons and wests Tigers. No running costs and bank 100k cheque every game.. I hate it but it makes sense money wise.. just a terrible spectacle for fans and viewers.

Its simple simpletons. League isn't dying, mudgee isn't the epicentre of the universe, the nrl doesn't hire enough 'live bands' etc

People are not interested in going to anz stadium for club games because its a shit atmosphere, in a shit location to get to.

wsw 17.7k avg
Sydney fc 18k avg.
Better than any Sydney nrl team last season. Considering the status of the Aleague not bad.

http://www.ultimatealeague.com/records.php?type=att

wanderers average was 11,690 without derbies as I indicated
FC averaged 16,000 , not 18,000
& just 14,000 without their derby clash & this for the most succesful season for a domestic team in soccers history in this country , in this season just gone.
nothing to write home about

its a Sydney thing
not an NRL thing.

until ANZ is redone
it won't be a pleasant place to play 2 struggling club teams in a club match
the ground is sterile without at least 30,000 people in it.

& all of the tennents at the venue atm are struggling a bit ( maybe not Parramatta so much )
no one is interested in watching these sides play anywhere
let alone ANZ

Do we actually think the re-build will make much of a difference for regular seasons game? The view will be improved and people will be more comfortable in wet weather but the stadium will still be too big and it won't change the fact the stadium is in a dud location at one of the most boring and isolated sports precincts in the world

When ANZ is rebuilt it's going to have 75,000 seats. It will still be three quarters empty with similar crowds.

We just have to hope the state government stop paying clubs to play there..

If the government stopped paying the clubs would walk away very quickly.

You'd hope that the parramatta stadium would be the go to joint for the likes of tigers, bulldogs etc.

Souths will probably continue to embarrass themselves by playing at anz

It would be great if Souths had an alternative ground to move to in the Souths district.

Leave ANZ and go back to their heartland.

by lifting the 8K crowds to 12K for the games played there
the 12K crowds to 18K
the 18K crowds to 25K
the average of the entire comp will go up due to the numb of games played there
control of the schedule will help
the clubs & NRL need to pull their finger out & create an event culture on the back of this

If ANZ is rectangular specific and has a roof, with the reduced capacity, and better scheduling(timewise)I guarantee the crowds will up.

If the oasis project was built things would have been a lot better.

I recall a ground at Liverpool capacity 30k was going to be used by the Bulldogs and Tigers.

The ground looked like AAMI park Melbourne.

Perfect solution. Only leaving Souths as the only homeless team playing out of ANZ.

If ANZ has a roof, a FULL roof, crowds will pick up a bit, but its still a shit show to get to.

Everywhere in Sydney is the same - at least it has its own train station.

The biggest problem is the size of the joint.
