ANZ is also bloody hard to get to. I was in Sydney for the grand final last year, I was staying at Bondi and it took me at least an hour or even close to 90 minutes to get from my apartment I was staying at to the ground. It's not close to the city it's way out in the suburbs.

I just believe the terrible experience you encounter at the ground is enough for most fans to stay away.

It's cold,no atmosphere(unless a sell out),lonely, expensive for food and drink, difficult to travel there.

The whole experience is just painful,so why would you even bother going there.

I will attend games at every venue in the nrl but I won't go to ANZ stadium.

Anz is just generally a shtbstadium for club games. Been about ten times and every time massively underwhelmed. Either let any nrl member in for free or stop playing games there. I'll be staggerd if they can make a silk purse out of this sows ear.

Decent crowd for the st's derby given the stupid Ko time.

On ANZ. I went to the game last night, taking clients in our corporate box. As a sharks supporter I wanted to watch the sharks dragons game beforehand. Got out of my uber and watched the first half in the Novotel. Sweet. I then went over to the corporate area at HT. They have about 20 TVs in the bar area and I asked them to switch the game on (it was showing the feed of the 20s) to about 3 people in the bar paying no attention.

"Nah mate can't do it"

"I've seen other games on here before"

"I told you already. We CANT DO IT"

He walks off.

So I have no choice but to go back to the Novotel.

As I'm leaving the gates a woman shouts at me;

"IF YOU LEAVE NOW YOU CANT COME BACK IN"

An argument ensues and I explain that as a corporate box owner to the tune of $28k per year I expect better customer service. I only got back in because I had an extra ticket due to a no show.

Later, I get drunk and then hammer them on twitter telling this story and how their atrocious customer service might be a part reason for the low crowds; and the social media manager responds by deliberately getting my name wrong and posting a bunch of "comedy" GIFs.

After the game my clients want to have a drink but everywhere was closed too. An absolute shithole.

Maybe all the Cocaine drug busts in Sydney had an effect at ANZ but in saying that I realised the Kogarah game was well attended in a shit time slot.

So maybe it's just ANZ stadium that the people refuse to go to.

Other grounds in Sydney are well attended. So let's walk away from that ground.

Oh that's right clubs receive 100k to play there..

I remember I rang my club up and demanded they don't play anymore games at anz and they told me they don't make 1 cent when they have 10k or less crowd at their suburban ground so that's why we play at anz we receive $100k from state government and have no costs at all..

Parramatta will be laughing all the way to the bank and so will.Dogs,Souths, and to a lesser extent Dragons and wests Tigers. No running costs and bank 100k cheque every game.. I hate it but it makes sense money wise.. just a terrible spectacle for fans and viewers.

Given most of the 8k would have been members at dogs game anz must have lost a mint in that game if they paid doggies

Its good to see the Fumble ball in western sydney with the Woods involved is also a horrible crowd. Looks about 6000. Most of them would probably be Wood supporters. WS are going to need to move cities.

So based on what we've seen so far this weekend, the most obvious thing on earth is the need for less games in Sydney and more in Brisbane.

In fact there's a fair chance those two appalling games at ANZ could have actually got bigger crowds in Brisbane just on expat Sydney fans showing up alone.

But then again Mudgee with a population of <15,000 people got a bigger crowd.

How do they calculate the crowds at the double header? Do both games have the given crowd awarded to it.

Both games given 52k

When ANZ is rebuilt it's going to have 75,000 seats. It will still be three quarters empty with similar crowds.

We just have to hope the state government stop paying clubs to play there..

If the government stopped paying the clubs would walk away very quickly.

I think the plans have the whole upper decks able to be covered with a translucent LED curtain ..can be used as video screens or advertising

Essentially reducing visable capacity to about 35k ..

That was the whole idea of the place. The Sydney CBD, you see, is on the eastern perimeter of the populated area. Dumb idea for a major city, but that's the way it is.The Olympic precinct is in fact in the eastern half of greater Sydney, but pretty close to the population centre (which is a few km's further west). The idea being that the area is more or less equally accessible from all parts of greater Sydney.

Barangaroo would have been so awesome for a 25k indoor facility for concerts and NRL

Could have just played FNF there every week .. would have sold out every game in that location

But we got a 2nd casino
