2017 Crowd Watch

I know is blasphemy around here but flicking between the NRL and AFL game for the Arvo and did I hear the 9 commentator mention a 'big crowd' at Newcastle? Is 19.5k seen to be a big crowd for NRL purposes or a good result for a regional team?

Regardless of the quality of each game you can't help but notice the difference in aesthetics in watching a game with a healthy crowd versus one with a bit of noise but visually pretty sparse, especially using seat coverings. Not a great look and I recall an Adelaide team copping all kinds of shit for doing that before the Adelaide oval move.

I read that ticket pricing seems to be a sore point. Would decreasing prices and getting bigger crowds, with a net nil cash impact of doing so, be a better idea just for the sake of a better atmosphere and visual presentation for those watching in tv?

I guess that the advantage of giving away tickets is that some, I suspect a small %, will want to come back and pay next time. it also makes the TV image better

I guess you have to be careful on who you target as you don't want to disrespect those who give over their hard earned to get their seat. Kids tickets should be handed out as much as possible. Start the attendance culture at the youngest stages.

Wow. You've just come up with a magic solution that no-one has ever considered.

Maybe in order to respect season ticket holders they give free tickets to the season ticket holders. Maybe have a competition to see which season ticket holders can get the most bums on seats via free tickets. Prize? Gets to sit in coaches box or with the cheerleaders or something.

I'm not a mind reader Teddles, but the CEOs and the RLPA have seen the revenue and cost figures all transparently set out this year.
Waste was publicly evident prior to this , with high profile highly paid execs who did little ,employed by Smith.3/4 of a million dollars was wasted on a feasibility study re the SFS.Smith was paid over $2m pa ,Greenberg $1m.NO doubt waste at admin level also.
Plus throw in the money spent by the NRL to take over and run two clubs who were on the verge of collapse, what that runs into money wise I have no idea, but it's not chicken feed.
It's up to the clubs and players( the custodians of the game) to do that sort of investigative work.
So the forming of the IC made some business knobs a good bit of coin and not much else.
Love to know who high paid execs are about from the scuffy looking Grant and no charisma Greenberk and posh Taff getting $2m for doing what ?.
I might become a businessman.

Check the timeline on where the IC started and who was employed. Then form your own opinion.I've spelt out what I know from the media reports.
Facts are former execs under Smith were on up to $600,000 pa ,at least 3 that I know of have gone, and Greenfingers is on less than half of Smith's salary.

I'm not particularly;arly concerned whether a CEO has charisma,(I know it helps),IMO he needs to be a communicator, business manager, undertsnad his sport and know how to grow it.
I do agree Grant's beard is a bleeding turnoff.

The only business you could run ,is a consumer testing business for Guiness .The mind reels back in horror ,the mere thought of you running the NRL.Stick to putting holes in doughnuts.

Very disappointing for Perth. I can understand why fans would be disheartened (been promised expansion since the late 2000's) but these poor crowd turnouts are doing nothing for their cause. It's an absolute shame considering the turmoil in Super Rugby and also the strength of Perth's domestic rugby league competition.

The nrl has made it very clear there are no plans for expansion. It matters not how many turn up anywhere that isn't nrl heartland.

So they were all Kiwis.Only interested in Warriors. That being the case a Perth team would not secure a local following.Pity.

We'd just sign the kiwi side, sorted.

I bag people who care so little about their team they won't man up in a bit of bad weather. I don't care for either team yesterday but still went out in a storm to catch some live nrl action. The Perth crowd was as sht as any sub 10k Sydney crowd, nrl fans need to grow a pair and buy a poncho. It's embarrassing to see a top tier sport draw less than 10k, rain or no rain.

If the games hitting its kpi's and growing, the CEO would be worth $2mill, as it is $1mill for Greenberg is still far too much!

Sorry champ that is a p*ss weak excuse. We are fully aware you bag people for non attendance in the rain.Your mob experienced it and you put up the excuse banner.Hollow mate really hollow.
Don't they have ponchos in Perth. They need a club as you continually bang on about, and they did nothing to push their case, with that attendance.

The Sharks had a cat2 cyclone hit them 2 years back ,when playing South on a Monday night in the worst conditions imaginable ,they got 4,000 to attend ,remarkable as most ended up in the leagues club.
This in a Shire of 225,000 people.
Perth has 2 mill?

Where did I? Show me a quote where I have said anything other than it was a sht crowd. Nib has around 15k capacity where you can stay dry, no excuses for not getting at least 11k. I have no idea why Australian rugby league fans are so soft, it doesn't seem to blight other codes as badly. I took my godsons to a dockers game in the pssing rain 2 years ago and there was 30k hardy souls there. Maybe someone could explain to me why rugby league fans here find going out in wet weather such a Hardship?

Like I said I went and I don't support either team. Did you go to that game?

The job was offered to Greenberg ,the salary was $1m.The ARLC ,must have admitted there was waste in H/O.Gallop earned more and he stuffed up the Tv deals.

Certainly plenty of waste with a $2m CEO salary and half a dozen non performing high flyers Smith brought in.With all his KPIS,20,000 average ,etc etc.

Greenberg for all his faults was involved in getting with others the $1.6bn funding for stadiums redevelopment in Sydney.Somehting that should have been lobbied for decades ago.
If he can solve the payment situation with the RLPA,get the money for grassroots, the expensive bunker is performing much better than last year and make the digital Dept pay for itself,$1m is chickenfeed in today's exec monies.
Greenberg to my knowledge did not decide on the scheduling and from I understand there is not much love lost between him and Grant.

Do I have to spell it out,.One more time FFS.
You have been banging on time after time about the Sydney crowds and rain.None of us here are stating the crowds are brilliant for a start when it rains. You then bang on about us making excuses .
You made a comment about Sydney people and ponchos, you still persist in bagging Sydney crowds in the rain sheesh.

When rain happened in Perth, you admitted it affected the crowd, by stating it was a sh*t crowd in addition. You stated its another wet day, and this will affect the crowd, every time there is an NRL game.

Seriously you appear to not know what you posted or have posted.

RAIN AFFECTS CROWDS: NOT ONLY FOR THE NRL.

20,000 at CC and 19,000 at Newcastle ,reason fine weather in decent stadiums.NO RAIN.

A team on the central coast would work
Not too far if fans wanted to travel from the RL heartlands.
Wouldn't cost them an arm and a leg.
I'm sure the players would prefer it.

Thanks for that idea for consumer testing Guinness but I also like to test other Stout's, Ale and Bitters as your right as stick of sticking knob into doughnuts.
