Anyone shed light on what happened in 2013 that caused the dip in attendance avg? Up until then the attendance had grown a little to consistently (09-12) over the 16k mark, peaking at 16.4k in 2012. Then in 2013 it dropped under 16k and has stayed there since:

In that same period Australia's population has grown by over 1 million people, indicating an even smaller attendance per '000 population.

2015, our lowest avg since 2004 , you had the likes of Brisbane, Bulldogs, St's, South's and cowboys all in top 8 so cant be just down to how the better supported clubs were travelling?

Then you have to take into account scheduling who played what on crap nights.
Then you look at which clubs played in country areas /Perth/Darwin/Cairns etc.
Also check the ANZ drop in numbers with people getting fed up with the current venue.

It's easy to sit back and bitch about crowds,and in some cases there cit can be argued there is no excuse. But seriously if you ignore teams with the biggest support bases in Sydney and Brisbane,you are ignoring a realistic fact of life.

I'll give you broncos not being in is likely to have been one cause of the sub 16k drop off in 2013 but 2015 when the crowds hit bottom you had

You might get one or two years of annomalies depending on weather and fixtures but 5 years running under 16k after 5 years of consistent over 16k would suggest it is something much more than that.

Great crowd at Brisbane, whilst origin is damaging to the nrl comp and is a sad reflection on how geographically limited our games reach is, it is an amazing sporting contest that is a great advert for our code.

Interestingly the longtime established Sydney clubs do draw crowds away from home as they have important factors such as history and recognition as part of yheir make up. You take just one of those clubs away as perth red suggest and you weaken the code in Australia's biggest city.

Exactly. That's why conversations about having Sydney only conferences aren't thought out and ignore the impact that they would have on out of town clubs crowds.

Yes. I think that the Sydney clubs would play in towns outside of Sydney regardless. Perhaps not home and away but still on an away basis. You would think Brisbane v cowboys has its own attraction. So a well thought out draw would work.

BTW wasn't 2015 the day the cat2 cyclone hit the Sharks v Souths game on a Monday night ,4,000 in attendance, a few in wet suits.Even on a Monday night given decent weather 11-12,000 would have been in attendance.I refused to battle falling trees and rain that moved sideways.
