I'll ad a rider to that, play all 26 Origins in Perth. Then PR gets the benefit of two classy home teams to follow.
2015
Dragons just scraped into the 8
Eels biggest crowd drawer 12th
Tigers when high up big following 15th
Knights big fan base last.
BTW wasn't 2015 the day the cat2 cyclone hit the Sharks v Souths game on a Monday night ,4,000 in attendance, a few in wet suits.Even on a Monday night given decent weather 11-12,000 would have been in attendance.I refused to battle falling trees and rain that moved sideways.
well one at least, the other just turns up to make it a game.
No season ever has ALL the top drawing teams in the 8! Each season usually has between 4-6 good crowd teams in the 8. Statistically as there has been a consistent pattern of attendance then you can be confident that the make up of the 8 or the weather isn't the deciding factor of avg over 16k or avg under 16k. Cronulla traditionally have a below avg attendance anyway so their weather blips wont make much difference.
Thanks for confirming my statistical analysis that most years in the last decade have between 4 and 6 of the top drawing clubs in the top 8. Now explain why despite this the last 5 years crowds have been sub 16k, clearly not due to less than 4-5 top drawing teams being in the top 8!Geez champ sometimes one loses patience.
The record season was it not 2005 for crowd averages.
Might I spell out the ladder
1.EEls Sydney's biggest drawing club
2.Dragons another with a big supporter base
3.Broncos,Who would argue about their base
4.Tigers(who won the G/F) with a huge base when doing well.
5 Cows a decent crowd puller
6 Storm
7 Sharks
8 Eagles
Your top 4 teams in that year are arguably apart from Souths, the biggest crowd pullers.

Imo, the top 6 drawing clubs with top 8 success in no particular order apart from Brisbane
Brisbane
Tigers
Parra
Knights
Bulldogs
Dragons
Feature these 6 teams in your finals series and barring rain would have a season record for crowd avg.
Undoubtedly but that isn't the point lol. What I am trying to ascertain is why we had a consistent number of years over 16k avg and then the last 5 years consistently sub 16k avg. and it isn't due to the clubs in the to 8 every year.
What has changed in the last 5 years to cause the crowd drop off?

When did 2 referees, who try to outdo each other finding a stoppage, come into being . . . 2009?Probably lack of entertaining football in my opinion. Back in the 2005-2010 era you'd see quick play the balls, which was accompanied by fast attacking football which was the norm
Now you'd be lucky to see 1 in every 10 games like that today. It's all about the boring wrestle these days
That and the game is fairly corporate these days (being a more tv friendly environment)
Is the NRL going to use the canadian company again to do the draw? The last few years efforts have been totally abysmal. Teams playing each other a few weeks apart, rivals only playing once, hell the Cowboys went 2 seasons in a row without a game on the GC. They need to sit down with the clubs and highlight marquee match ups in an appropriate timeslot. You can tell at the moment that the mob coming up with the overall schedule have NFI about the sport.
Funny I've confirmed which you fail to grasp. The bigger supported teams when performing get the crowds.Get more of these better supported teams in the top 8 ,and your crowds increase dramatically..Simples.
Are you on another planet, have a look at the Eels performances in the last few years.Have a look at the scheduling.Have a look at the stadiums involved.Have a look at the worsening transport infrastructure in that time span, weather in one of those years was the wettest summer/autumn for decades.
FFS ,have a look at teams who don't play each other twice(form memory this year the sharks play the Eels/Panthers/Bulldogs once).
All these have to be factored in ,plus yes loss of interest for some.
Geez you don't have to be a genius to look at the many factors, that can and do influence crowds.
It appears the biggest problem is the numbers that have dropped off, are from attending ANZ stadium regardless of who is playing.Ask yourself the question who uses the stadium Souths/Eels/Dogs/Tigers.The biggest crowd supporters. How are they going or have been over the last few years?
You can sit back on your verandah looking at the desert blooms around WA,and be as far away from reality as needed.
