2017 Crowd Watch

We are heading for around 1500 people PER GAME less than the peak of 2010. That is 288,000 LESS paying customers through the gate or around $10million at least in lost revenue to the clubs. How these merkins on the commision are still getting paid to run the game is beyond me.

Slightly under their season average. The Broncos have one remaining home game against Parramatta next Thursday night. Will be interesting to see what crowd that pulls. They could have their lowest crowd average since 2013 and their second lowest in the past ten years.

Is it lost revenue or has that revenue just moved to improved tvdeals?

Good thing the Dogs weren't playing.
Dogs v Souths (both teams out of contention on Thu night last week got 8k. Not good but better than 6213 lol.
Link for the first statement?

The second is so weak as to not be worth a comment. You could almost work for the NRL if you said a bit less.

As for the second statement, it's actually true.
2016:
upload_2017-8-19_8-53-58.png
782,373 after six rounds

2017:

697,529 after six rounds

As you would probably see from comments in this thread and from the number of games relocated and shifted in lower grades, rainfall was abnormally high in the first six weeks of the competition. Call it an excuse all you want but it remains true - less people attend in bad weather.

Why 2010?

Why not pick the peak of 2012-13?

clubs recieve about 2.2 million more each in grants nowdays , it coming directly from tv monies
so yeah , its not really lost revenues
however , clubs should be doing more to get bums on seats , the games image is being harmed by this awful look of near empty venues. And playing games at grounds where 10K looks decent is not the solution either.

its been ruled out already
when fumbleball abandoned the venue last year there has been no maintainence of the edges of the ground 10m in from fence all the way around
it would need to be relayed for bumbleball to be played there & that needed to happen weeks ago
it hasn't because theres no gaurantee of the venue being needed & they won't know til after next week & that isn't enough time to get it done.
also for a one off game for the turf to be relayed , the cost would be astronomical to the ALF & not good business when nearly half the tickets will be given away like last years final

so it'll be the SCG if the Swines & Fudgets play in a final

big hit!

seriously, this one or the other choice being peddled around here is a crock!

the NFL manage to increase the value of their broadcast rights and fill venues.
the EPL and Bundesliga manage to increase the value of their broadcast rights and fill venues.
the AFL manage to increase the value of their broadcast rights and fill venues.

and all those leagues have multiple games on at the same time.

this belief that scheduling games to more fan-friendly attendance times, and also, increasing broadcast rights, as being mutually exclusive is just lazy business.

fix it up, because the more empty seats you see at a game in prime time, the more unlikely folks will go. what is it about the NRL at the mo that makes joe bloe say; "i got to go to a game!!"

absolutely nothing

fumbleball, bumbleball, ALF, etc manage to fill out a 50k venue every week in Adelaide with two teams. likewise in Perth with their 45k venue.

their League is also about to record another high season attendance to all regular season matches.

in contrast, the donkeys have brisbane to themselves and fall short every home game and less than 7k are rolling up to watch established Sydney clubs play at home. and thank f**k for the donkeys too cos average League crowds would fall out of the arse if they weren't around.

tell me which game is doing something right in this country at the mo?

another season high ?..... oh dear , hows that koolaide taste ?
they haven't been near the 2011 aggregate record in the last 5 years , they will probably set an aggregate record in 2017... just.. but considering they're playing an extra 11 games in 2017 then 2011 its hardly the feat the appears to be ...

they'll only be about 100K ahead of 2008 ... but with 22 extra games being played
numbers can lie a little can't they , the trick is not to sip too much of that nasty koolaide : )

you're deflecting here dave. i asked, which game is doing better at the moment?

the NRL's best standard is fairly low in ALF terms, and it's not even near eclipsing that.

established clubs with rosters worth about $7m each are playing in front of sub <7k crowds. two heavily supported Sydney clubs attracted <9k last week. is this progress?

ANZ stadium is the problem. Five hundred thousand billion posts later and the clowns on this thread still don't get it.
It's half the problem. The other half being the timeslot.

But I agree that ANZ is an appalling stadium with an appalling location.

I've been to a few GFs there and also last years Origin Game I and the travel to and from the stadium completely sucked the enjoyment out of the Origin experience.

We were packed in like sardines for 30min waiting to get on the train home.

If the stadium was in the city you could walk to a choice of bars pre and post game for a meal and drink and get home via more modes of transport.

But ANZ?... just a disastrous human experience from start to finish.
