I am an Eels fan - I live and work near the airport. My choice last night - spend two hours getting to the game, match finishes close to 10pm, not get home until 11pm. And as a woman, I am not riding public transport at night. Plus I start work at 6am....

Not only does watching it on TV save time, it saves a lot of money too.

I dare say even if they opened the gates last night, you still wouldnt get 10K.

People have lives - work, school, study etc.
Spot on. These Thursday night games and Friday' at 6 are ridiculous.....

Souths lowest home ground since 2007 when they drew 5,053 when playing Penrith. It is their third lowest regular season home game crowd at the stadium.

There are codes around the world that based on one game like this would cancel the 6pm slot one game .. not one season

And let the tv station Sue them if they want ..

Grow some balls nrl

6,213 at ANZ.

Combined 13,000 across the two games, from two clubs whose membership bases boast some 55,000 or thereabouts, if I recall correctly?

Timmah wasnt you saying to wait and see if it wouldnt be as bad as us so called doom mongers said it would be pre season? Do we have enough evidence yet that it is as screwed up as we predicted?

"as screwed up" would be if there was a 1k slide in the average in one season.

It'll almost certainly be down on last year but I can't see it sliding *that* far. Crowds are relatively stagnant, not in freefall.

So you still sticking that Friday 6pm isn't too bad? Or that it's as sht as Monday nights? Crowds were already 1000 down on a few years ago, to say they have only fallen by a little bit more isnt exactly glowing lol.

Surprised this is a smaller crowd than the Sharks. Dragons support in SEQ seems to have dropped the last couple of years.

I just don't get Fri 6pm game

Crowds are less than any other slot
TV is less than all slots except 3pm sat

It is basically a f**k u from fox to nine saying I'm gonna steal your lead in audience

That's it

It does nothing for anyone else

Crowd wise (before tonight anyway) I believe Friday 6pm was doing better than Monday 7pm.

This year I feel the first six weeks were significantly down and the crowds have never quite recovered.

Why can`t they have an extra game on Sunday arvo. Thurs night and early Fri games are hard to get to and fans don`t like the timeslot

It would probably realistically cost around 100k viewers a week, to change to more fan friendly time slots..

Basically the boffins at Fox and nine are prepared to almost kill the game for sake of 100k viewers a week..

The just dont care about the game.. thats the difference, Ch 7 people in Melbourne wouldnt f**k the game for 100k viewers.. cos they love the game..

ch 9 executive team couldnt give a shit.. other than gyngell no RL fans, fox execs are all union guys are afl nuts from melbourne,.

Problem when you are a working class game at heart, you get no love at the decision making table, including media companies..

Link for the first statement?

The second is so weak as to not be worth a comment. You could almost work for the NRL if you said a bit less.
