I'm sure the point has been raised before, but certainly the way Origin is marketed as the be all and end all of RL over the last 30+ years has had a massive impact on how the NRL Premiership is perceived. I have students who can tell me everyone who plays for the Maroons and Blues, yet have no idea which club sides these same players are signed to. Same goes for a huge number of adults who are of the belief that anything outside of Origin is a second tier bush league. Partly why I feel Origin would be better suited at the end of the regular season the way most test match sports work. Nonetheless it appears the reality of the 80's SL report that Sydney has too many teams spread too thinly has led to major drop in attendance, that and Leagues Club membership being more important to many over ticketed membership. Nearly 50,000 members of Easts Leagues and only 17,000 members for Easts games.

The NRL has screwed brisbane over again. Cheapest ticket to suncorp for an adult $40.

Cheapest to Eels v Cowboys at ANZ, $25...
It not the NRL. Its Brisbane itself. They can charge whatever they want and people will still pay for it.

2016 stings so bad doesn't it?

Yes, but it's got nothing to do with the fact the sharks are a small club with a small following.
Watching them get knocked out today whilst my planning my gf trip if storm get there in a coupLe of weeks has softened the memory of last year though lol

Honestly, if this week wasnt an indictment on the people running rugby league I do not know what it is.

Laws of business
1 - Make it easy for customers to buy your product
2 - Don't blame your customers for not buying your product.

We are not selling any product in adelaide perth, nor are we selling enough in brisbane or in the south island of nz.

Whilst manly and the sharks remain in sydney there finals should be at their home.

If the NRL had balls it would send
Cronulla to perth, perth sharks has a nice ring to it
Chooks to brisbane
Manly to radelaide
penrith or wests to south island nz.

Make any relocated teams sydney games play out of old home teams stadiums..

Take over the juniors, not much of a bother for easts since they dont run them.

Also play SOO stand alone on 3 weekends in a row.

And let the bears buy and rebrand the titans, playing a game or two out of north sydney oval.

hahahahaha

oh

you're serious !

you think there should be more Sydney sides ??

oh good lord ... LOL , just LOL

Yes. More opportunity for top flight clubs. Perhaps a metropolitan promotion and relegation with 9 to ten clubs still playing in the top flight and other clubs given the chance to participate if proving and wanting to do so. For instance North Sydney/Gosford Bears gets an opportunity to make the NRL if it wins the next tier level down and a struggling Metropolitan top.flight club goes down but not to oblivian as is the case now if it isnt doing well in the NRL. Over time this demoted club may gain back its place in the NRL. This would give the many geographic areas within Sydney a sense of opportunity and interest In the NRL without being cast aside as is the case nowadays with dillution & death talk of relocation that pervades the thinking of some. Their should be at least 20 top flight clubs in the NRL. Ideally 10 from the Metropolitan Sydney area and ten from elsewhere.

in case you havent noticed , Sydney is 12 times bigger then Canberra & doesn't even get tests anymore due to being unable to fill even small venues there
the world cup has abandon Sydney for 1/4 finals & semis so pathetic are its sports fans
imagine if the Raiders were playing the Cowboys in a final today down here in weather like it was today
we get 25K without even trying with the assistance of about 50 cows fans

fair weather
thats a compliment to your lot & most Sydney NRL fans

England should have been playing the Kangaroos in Sydney this coming World cup. An opportunity lost!

No, failure to grow interest in the game and attract new fans in Sydney is the problem. Clubs that have gone out to do that are travelling ok, attendances are down, tv audiences are down, player regos in men are down. The interest in the game has dropped since the commission took over. They have to be held accountable for this.

Then throw in that some Sydney clubs (inc three of the five in this years finals) are small outer suburb teams with limited catchments and population appeal and you've got a double whammy. Sharks, manly and Penrith are three of the games lowest fanbase clubs and that has been reflected in finals attendances.

You ignore that these clubs have far reaching supporter bases. This lower fanbase comment is misleading. For instance the Sharks winning last year has increased their overall fanbase significantly. Yes the crowd was poor at the final but i blame poor marketing more than anything else for this outcome.

A total of 99k attended four finals games in Sydney over the weekend. The good news is that the three NRL finals (in total) got a greater attendance than the one AFL game.

well the fudgets will bring the bumbletards sydney average down considerably next week
if anyone puts their hand in their pocket to pay for a ticket they're mad
they'll be freebies by the truckload being handed out

& they'll still get less then Manly & Penrith did on Saturday lol

an opportunity for another half filled stadium is about all it would be
good on the WC organisers for treating Sydney the way its treated the international game for decades

with disdain

It's both, unfortunately.

Ironic that this whole mess was originally labelled the Right Game / Right Venue strategy. The right venue this week was either an Allianz double header or Brookvale / Shark Park.

And even with a very disappointing crowd, I thought the atmosphere today was fantastic. And I was on the quieter side of the stadium.

right venue & Brookvale should never , ever , be used in the same sentence
Shark Park is only marginally better

The 'fudgets' are essentially playing a training run compared to the real test offered in rugby league. However alot of misguided Mums(in the main) see this as a way of 'shielding ' their little Johny from playing a true test of ability and mental courage. Historically AFL was created by Victorian cricketers that wanted something to do for keeping fit during the winter months. Not many people are aware of this as its true and would expose the myth that has been misguiding the 'wimpification' of football codes in Australia .

Only thing worse than the dopes running the NRL now is the utter planks on social media and forums who think these are the answers

So predictions?
40k for Brisbane and Sydney this week seems likely?

Maybe more in Brisbane, maybe less in Sydney?

Brisbane should go close to capacity.
I'd like to think 50k would be a pass mark for Parra but faith in Sydney fans is at an all time low.
